Argh.... a new (I believe) NE2 problem/question:

About 3 weeks ago, I switched the primary line on our family plan (for reasons having nothing to do with the pending Incredible order). When I went to look at pricing on MyVerizon, I noticed there was no NE2 showing up. I called 611 and a helpful rep told me that when you change the primary line, the NE2 (which had been there) doesn't kick back in for 90 days. ( Geez, I wish they would have mentioned that when I switched; I definitely would have held off).

Soooo... after doing some digging, she said that she couldn't offer me the NE2 discount on the D.I. until its release day, i.e., the 29th. She then told me it would be two-day shipping, so with the weekend I wouldn't see it until the following week. When I told her the pre-order info guaranteed delivery on the 29th if ordered up to the 28th, she said she'd provide overnight shipping so I'd get it on the 30th.

OK, I wasn't thrilled by this but figured I could wait the extra day (after 3 months of waiting) since it is a $100 NE2. But then I got to wondering:

  • If the Rep orders it for me on the 29th, do I still get the $100 on-line rebate?
  • If so, will that rebate be deducted from the price or would it be a mail-in rebate?
I called back and got a different rep who was polite but clueless ("We don't even know what the price will be yet.") Any thoughts/suggestions on how I can 1) get my NE2 discount, 2) avoid dealing with a mail-in rebate, and 3) maybe still get My Precious on the 29th?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the longish note.

P.S. The first rep mentioned that she had tried ordering the D.I. early herself and found that VZ had set the price on their system to $99,000 to discourage such early orders.;)

Technically when you switch lines around you lose the NE2 credit. Only the primary lines gets it and it only gets it once every 20 months. The line that you now made the primary will be eligible for NE2 in 20 months from the date you moved them around. That date will be different from that lines upgrade date. The upgrade date will be whatever it was and NE2 will now be 20 months away for the new primary line. I can tell you 100% certain that it doesn't kick back in in 90 days. You're going to have to explain the situation over the phone and tell them you didn't realize changing the lines around would make you lose the NE2 credit and that nobody told you that when you did it. They can either manually give you that amount off your phone or give you a bill credit.

Dexter is a great show but its definitely gone downhill. As the show progresses he goes from killing to fulfill an urge to doing it to protect people. Obviously he could always justify his killings by saying they would save lives down the road, but that wasnt his primary concern, at least in the first couple of seasons. The best thing about the first season is how you werent sure if you should like him. By the fourth season he's doing everything for a good cause and you have to root for him. John Lithgow as the antagonist still made season four great, but I liked Dexter better when he didn't have a conscience and had to fake emotions.

If you like Dexter you should check out Breaking Bad.

Sorry to be so off topic, like everyone else im just trying to kill time before the reviews come in.

I agree about Dexter. It was better when he was more diabolical. The whole concept of a serial killer with a conscious just isn't working for me.

I haven't seen Breaking Bad.

Thats on my list as the next show to catch up with, That and all 5 seasons of the Wire.

Maybe once I get my Incredible I can put some of these shows and watch them on it. Does the phone support regular .avi? the kind that one could download? or do they need to be converted or optimized in some way.

Theres a way to transition the TV talk back to the thread topic.

Are the pre-orders going to start in a hour?

I'd really like to do it tonight so I can't stop going cray thinking about it.

Thanks Brian. Any clue if (or where) this is actually documented? Certainly no one mentioned it when I made the switch. I'm sure there's some logic to why it resets, but seems like since I've not gotten a new phone on any of the lines in the family plan in the past two years, there's no reason it should disappear.

Worse case now seems to be that I either wait the extra day or just go ahead and preorder and either try to get them to apply it after fact. Will try calling them again (or maybe again and again and again) until I get someone willing to make it right.

tnx again..

Yeah but the emotion he is about to unleash will be awesome next season

He is awesome when hes angry. One of the best scenes from last year was when he used his belt to drag John Lithgow into the kitchen and put a knife to his throat.

It's kind of hard to explain. Basically this is why it resets. You're only eligible for NE2 on a line that is $34.99 or higher. I guess the system isn't smart enough to realize what you're doing. Since each line has different upgrade dates and contract dates they can't really just automatically move it from one to another. Even though the old primary line was eligible the one you made the new primary may not have been eligible at that time. Once you moved the old line to a $9.99 line it no longer qualified for NE2 because it was less than $34.99 so the system dropped it. The new primary was now eligible for NE2 but the time starts on the date the change was made for the 20 months. Since you really were eligible for it and had waited your 20 months since last using it you shouldn't have a problem getting them to give it to you one way or another. It's not going to happen automatically though.

I honestly would tell them you're going to preorder this phone and do your upgrade and just get them to give you a bill credit right now for the amount that your NE2 should have been. Then its done and over with.
