On the business discounts site, at the checkout there's a little ad that says "Free Activation every Friday-Monday"...

Does anyone know if that actually works or if there are any tricks to it? The fine print says:
"Free Activation ends Monday 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time. A credit will be issued to your account within two billing periods to offset Activation charges incurred at check out. Free Activation is not available for Prepay phone purchases."

Thanks for all the info here. New member
I had a question about the pre-order. What is the advantage of the pre-order vs going to the store on the 29th? Don't we have to go to the store to get all of our contact info transferred over to the new phone? Will we get the phone on the 29th or a few days later? Can I pre-order from the local store so I can just go there on the 29th and take care of everything? Sorry if some of this was answered already.

To sweeten the deal, there's an extra 6.6 gigabytes of storage (which for some reason Verizon is still reporting as 8 gigs, even with a footnote explainer) that you can use for music, video, photos, whatever. (At the time of this writing, apps are still constrained to the 512MB of ROM -- more than enough for more people, but something Google has promised to address in future updates to Android.)

And on top of that, Verizon's including an 8GB microSD card, and the phone can handle up to a 32GB card.

Anyone catch this? saw it on the android central review, is he misinformed or do we not know something?

edit: also has the voice to text feature some were wondering about
Saw that as well, funny that engadget's review said something like "it would be nice if HTC/Verizon would include at least a 2gb card..."

One review said 8gb card, another said no card...

android central was the only review i read that mentioned an included card, he spoke about it atleast two or three times, another said he didnt have an sd to try to store anything, the rest didnt mention it

need more info, ill probably just wait until i get the phone to order a card unless i hear some facts soon

Wow - California charges tax on the full retail amount...ugghhh. Just paid $94 in tax on phones for me and the mrs. ($149 & $199)... Sux...

But I'm not letting it get me down - been waiting too long and too excited!!! Thanks to everyone for making the wait bearable!

Edit: So my actual charge was $350ish (after rebates) but I was charged tax on $1,050!!!

This was in the Slashgear write up. What do you all think about their take on the battery? Doesn't sound good

"Unfortunately, the flip side is battery life. The Nexus One requires some goading of settings to get it through a heavy day

If you're in a 4G city and you pass on the Evo, then I have no sympathy for you and your impending buyer's remorse.

You are wrong.
You are wrong.

The No. 3 wireless carrier, Sprint Nextel, claims to have a 4G network in place based on a different technology called WiMAX, though WiMAX is actually just an enhanced 3G technology.

Verizon and ATT are going to be going LTE right away. Sprint is actually just using a 3g enhanced network. Not the fast 4g.

That is LTE or Long Term Evolution.

4g LTE isn't going to be.....

Let the suckers get the guinea pig model while we ('INCREDIBLES') are fully optimizing the technology of TODAY with a bigger/better network and 3g network. Plus it's smaller, slimmer, and it's HERE!! Who the hell wants a built in stand for their cell phone anyways.. The evo is just pushing the envelope of teeny bopper phone.
Either you're REALLY playing catch-up, or are super fired up about his post, since it is 190 pages ago (over nineteen thousand five hundred posts ago).

I'm just curious which one it is?:confused::p

Here you go for comparison:

DROID Eris

Verizon Wireless.com -> HTC DROID Eris

DROID Incredible

Verizon Wireless.com -> HTC DROID Incredible

Eris says in more than 1 place it includes an 8GB MicroSD card pre-installed.

Incredible makes no mention at all. However, it has 8GB of memory according to the Verizon site with 6.6GB user-accessible so it is likely that the Android OS and other pre-installed programs take up the 1GB or so since the 8GB formatted is probably 7.4GB or so meaning you really have almost 8GB "pre-installed". It just isn't a MicroSD card.

Ok, now that we know people have it, and the embargo has been lifted, can someone please tell me if Sense fixes the ActiveSync security protocol issues inherent in the stock Android? My firm requires devices to accept remote wipes and forced password locks on all devices connected to Exchange. Stock Android does not allow for this, but I've heard Sense is a more robust ActiveSync experience.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it is supported, I get my data paid for by my firm. If not, I not only have to pay for my own data, but continue to carry around a Blackberry as well as my phone.

wtf? i have a nationwide plan with unlimited txt and vcast (which gives me unlimited web).

It tells me this phone is "compatible with current plan" yet - still tries to force me on a $30 data plan. ugh. guess it really isn't "compatible with current plan" then is it? hmpf!
Sure, it IS compatible with your current VOICE plan, which just happens to include the Vcast, et al. But Vcast is only a plan for their web via VZW programming, not a traditional data plan, which is currently required for all smart phones.

So it might be time to think about if the Vcast programming is really of any value anymore:confused:, now that your data plan will give you access to the entire web.

Perhaps going to just a voice-only plan, and then having the data plan & using Google Voice and the web, for texts and content might be the overall less expensive way to go, rather than just adding the data plan to what you currently have.

Happy birthday to me. Notice day and year :D

The 'ol half century mark. I know of an Incredible way to celebrate that momentous occasion.... :p

I hate how in all of the reviews, they all said, "best android phone in the US, and hands down the best phone on verizon." honestly, whats better thats out in the US right now? The evo isn't out, and the iphone/moto droid/nexusone are all dated. plus, it's on the (arguably, but we all know it is) best network.
i can't wait for the Evo reviews to come out and say, "well, after we put a step stool on our rooftop, held the evo in an extendo-arm facing NW, we finally got 4G!"
sorry, had to rant a little bit :)

i really wanna see how this thing is gonna do outside! none of the reviews posted a pic/vid of its outdoor performance..

I saw that when checking out in MN. Another way for the Government to get money from us....

In the droiddog review, there was this: "Also crammed into the phone is a wireless b/g/n radio. I haven’t been able to test the N portion."

Horrible review, MM will have a cow. ;)

How is everyone getting $229.99 for 1 year contract? Do you have some promotion or deals? cause I get $269.99. Please lemme know!

I can not get in site. It will let me order the phone as a "new" customer, but My Verizon seems to be down, anyone else having a problem??

Never mind. I'm trying to get through all of these reviews, and apparently Boy Genius Report was nice enough to answer my question. For anyone else interested:

Using the business discount site. You need an email address of a company that supplies Verizon discounts.

(and so... $30 extra... tied down for a year less. It's a no brainer!)
