Root Liquid Smooth and your thoughts.

I was just wondering because I never see anyone talking about Liquid, and I was curious to what peoples view is on their rom. Me personally find it to be one of the best roms. The only reason I switch off of it sometimes, is because I like to have the paranoid android settings. But Liquid Smooth has almost everything to offer, and my favorite of all is being able to have pie show up anywhere you want, and put custom buttons on it.

So please tell me your views on Liquid Smooth, and any other rom you prefer. Why you prefer it, and why you don't like another rom. Me personally, I stick with Liquid Smooth, and now my top is Revolt. They really put a great effort into the rom and I can't get enough of it. Please, I like any and all feedback.

It has definitely enjoyed it and recommend it. Everyone enjoys Carbon, and I do see it as a good ROM. I just don't see it being better than Liquid. But that is why I made this post. To get peoples views and opinions on roms.

Carbon has been my only rom since i got the n4, im about to flash PA, then will give liquid a try, and decide which one to be my next daily.

I think the same team that made liquid, made carbonrom also.

From LiquidSmooth Google+ page.
I wanted to update all of you to some changes on the team.

Due to creative differences, the members of Team Liquid have parted ways from Liquid0624 to pursue our own rom, called Carbon. Liquid roms will no doubt continue to be available, and I will be turning over this account to Liquid0624. You can find us at https://plus.google.com/b/103315278250477995368/103315278250477995368. We hope to see you there!

Why are we doing this? We want to create a rom that brings you the same level of speed and features you are used to, but that anyone can build and port at any time. We want to keep our repo up-to-date at all times, and properly credit the other devs who have contributed so much to the community. We want to stay close to you, the users. We hope you'll join us!

I remember reading that. After doing more research I think its because Liquid pretty much copies everyone elses and I think a majority of people like to stick with the creators of things. Honestly I personally think they elevated a lot of stuff. They don't have the Hybrid Paranoid Settings yet, and I wish they did. For that main reason I started using Drew Garen rom Bigfoot. Goo.im Downloads - Browsing Bigfoot
But my top reason for loving Liquid Smooth so much, and I haven't found on another rom. Is that on the pie control settings, you can set your own buttons. So you can put anything there, and you can put long press buttons as well. As well as you can put the pie on multiple sides. It makes you use it more, because with my case i'm not able to activate the Pie with my thumb on the opposite side. So you can only activate it on the side your thumb is on. With you able to put the pie anywhere, you can activate from the left and the right. But yeah, I use bigfoot, and it is pretty lengthy with the amount of settings.

Was wondering if anyone can offer me some advice.
This is my first time rooting and installing a custom Rom.

I rooted the phone no problem. I have downloaded the Liquid Smooth ROM and gapps to my phone.

I am following the steps for installing the ROM but something is not working.

So I boot into Recovery mode (both volumes plus power)
Then it tells me to take a Nandroid backup of my current Rom. To do so, it says to choose backup and restore. I don't see this option.

When in recovery, the only options I see are Start, Power off, Restart Bootloader and Recovery Mode.
I tried Recovery mode. It goes to a screen with the android guy on it for a while then just restarts the phone.

Now when I rooted, I was told to either choose Root Device or Root Device + Install Busybox.
There were two more options. Boot Custom Recovery and Install Root (superuser or supersu) and Boot custom recovery, install root, busybox and rename restore file.

Any ideas?
Phone is working so I'm not in a panic lol.

Thanks

you need to flash a custom recovery.

Download WUGS nexus Toolkit from XDA, you can flash a custom Recovery from there..

the screen that you are booting into is the fastboot bootloader Not recovery. So you can flash a Rom from there but it will be tricky.

I personally suggest TWRP as a recovery over CWM, as it has a few features that CWM is lacking, (File Manager, Themes, & Terminal as a few)

But yeah, that's all you need to do.

for step by step,

Turn the phone on, turn on USB debugging, plug in the phone to your computer,
open the Nexus Toolkit, click Launch under Advanced Utilities, Flash Permanent (recovery), and find the recovery file you have downloaded, let the Toolkit do it's magic, and Bam! you've got a recovery.

Thanks. Seems simple enough. May have missed reading that in everything I have read.

My question is why on the two install threads I have read, pressing vol. up and down plus power takes you to recovery mode.

I used Google Nexus 4 toolkit v 4 to root. Will downloading what you are saying affect anything?

Thanks again.

vol. up + vol down + power = stock recovery...which you can flash stuff from if you know how to use adb and fastboot commands...

it's much easier to flash a custom recovery and then go from there...and you can boot directly into it using vol. down + power

and you can use the toolkit you downloaded for root to also flash a custom recovery...there should be an option there..

i just use WUGs because of the GUI *shrug*

I sorted out the issue. Just re rooted with the custom recovery. Flashed the ROM no issues which I LOVE btw.

I checked out WUGs. Does seem a lot easier and user friendly.
Will show WUGs to my buddy who is ready to root and flash.

Since this post I have changed to Slim Roms. Slightly better then liquid. But I haven't found the one that has them all. At least not yet.

Check out RootBox. It is the best "all in one" that I have found (includes pie and halo) and has a built-in dark theme that you can toggle on and off.

I think I did try that one, and I didn't like it because it had a little to much control for me. Right after I posted recently, I switched back to Liquid and it has Halo now and their boot animation is lovely. Also on pie controls, I like the double pie. So one pie has 5 and the other has 7 and you can put any app or anything on them. But I switched again to RevoltJB and I have to say it is one of the best. It doesn't have double pie. But it has ribbons, regular pie with more options, halo with more options, and hybrid settings.
