Hey guys recently my phones been trying to download the firmware update without my permission and i realised that it absolutely killed my download quota on my home internet.

So this brings about a couple questions.

1. Why did the download fail so badly?

2. Can i stop it from trying to download things without my permission when on the wi-fi?

because i could not include a pic in my first post here it is

I'm not sure about this but since it updated without your permission, then ticking the 'Restrict background data' box might work. You can do so at

Menu (key) / Settings / Data usage / WiFi (tab)

Wow, 48G of data? Something is not right. I don't think all the updates combined will be more than a few Gb of data. Unless it somehow failed, and trying to do it over and over again....

The OP has a capped bandwidth limit with the ISP. Which is why there is a concern with data usage. In this case I can't figure out what could have chewed that much data. Updates are not that 'big'.

Restricting background data won't work and that will just let the system use background data whenever it connects to any Wi-Fi network. This is only helpful if you want to prevent it from using the carrier's data network. That's it.

Go into Settings> About device> Software updates

Uncheck 'Auto update' and 'Wi-Fi only'. This might help.

very strange indeed.

btw.. .how do you get to see both Mobile and Wifi Data Usage? I only see and have no option to see my Wifi.. just mobile only..

*** Edit ^^ never mind I found the option.

thanks!
