Help How do I dry my phone correctly?

I tried to search the forums before asking but I didn't see what I was looking for...

My toddler decided that the dog's water bowl was a good place to put my galaxy s3. I have the phone, the battery and my external sd card in a baggie with rice. Is this what I should be doing??

I'm mostly worried about the sd card as I have pictures and videos I want on there. The phone is insured.

How long should I wait before I attempt to turn the phone back on?

I have read quite a few posts about putting it in a bag or bowl of rice and letting it sit. I think maybe for 24 hours maybe? That should be long enough to make sure it's thoroughly dry. :)

If you have access to an air compressor or if you can get a can of compressed air I would use that to be sure all the water is blown out of all the crevices.

The longer the better in the rice.

Okay. I'm going to put it back in the rice. I just tried the phone. The battery works, shows 92% and all my notifications made sounds.

But the screen is "flashing" or shaking like the light. And it doesn't register any touch.

Too late now but dont put the battery in for as long as you can possibly hold off. Its the electricity that does the first damage.
I think your SD will be ok.. ive dropped one in a pint of beer and had one go through the washing machine :)

Good Luck with this. I had a similar problem (wet phone) left it in rice for two days -- and like yours, it only partly worked. This is not the "miracle cure" that some folks think it is -- sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

And the comments are correct -- it's the power surging through the phone after you reconnect the battery that does the damage. If it's not working now, it's unlikely that it's going to work in the future.

This is why replacement insurance is generally a good idea.
