Apple and Android Discussion

Apple is a company and Android is a platform which Google owns. The debate will stop when either one of them is gone. You must think. Will we still be using Android in 30+ years? Possibly, assuming that it evolves into something that we can take full advantage of.

My guess is in 30 years--a lifetime in the tech world--we will be using something else. Who really knows if Apple or MS will still be playing in the phone arena.

Lots of things can happen in thirty years.

Do not forget the "two guys in a garage." They will always bring something new to the tech table.

Public stuff. Even though he and I haven't spoken in almost 3 years, he posted this publicly.

Yeah I actually agree with you Rob.

Maybe some day we have some cool little Time Traveling devices inserted in our brains so we can all screw up the time space continuum! :)

I think what will happen in the future is that the usual device will have some of the bog standard (easily) changeable parts.

Like RAM, wifi card, maybe cpu like some laptops today can swap processors out, internal hard drive and / or Solid State drive (which ever you prefer price wise or whatever etc.) but they must all be very easy to replace and not everything soldered onto the motherboard so that manufacturers can make a bazillion more dollars out of us so they can buy that solid gold swimming pool.

I see Ubuntu (Important info man says: "Remember!! This is made by a legendary South African you hear!?" xD) maybe becoming a very big player and I also see maybe Tizen maybe joining the gang too hopefully?

Maybe.

Time will tell.

But the more the merrier because then they fight each other for my hard earned Rands (mickey mouse money!) :)

But I think I see maybe the traditional laptop maybe totally change into a tablet or touch screen device but you simply just buy a keyboard for it wireless or whatever does not matter.

It is already happening quite a crap load by the looks of it and you can already hook up a keyboard to many devices as it stands.

Basically what has changed is only the way you interact with the device. I guess it is good though but when you are sacrificing / trading "looks" or aesthetics for performance because you want it to be as thin as a hair then I do get upset I guess because now everyone wants one even though I would rather have a slightly thicker device with a lot more power.

It is basically because of apple's brilliant marketing power there has been quite the shift from conventional computers ek se.

It is weird because tech like touch screens have been around for many many years but with the brain washing power of apple the sky is the limit.

Quite a lot of decades they have been around for.

I think it was as far back as the 1970's if I am not mistaken?

Anyway I know touch screens have been around for a long time.

apple are so good at marketing that they can put a few sticks in a very old dog turd and sell it for a fortune and say something like:

"From years of hard work and painstaking research we present to you... the new iTurd! It will make you go WOW from it's sheer awesomeness. It can:

1) Attract many flies
2) Help you fertilize your pegging / dying grass
3) And MUCH MUCH more!

Buy it now for only $10 000 before they are all gone!"

The power of marketing... if you are good enough you can sell dead babies... wow there are some mad people on this planet! :D

I agree also. Something I like about Apple is that they have very strict UI requirements for big developers, making the apps look really nice.

Which is great, if you want Apple to tell you what "looks nice"!

What looks nice to me (clean home screen/minimal apps on it/ circular icons....for example) may not " look nice" to someone else.

The biggest issue with any Apple VS/AND Android discussions is they will tend to be more once sided or the other. What I mean by this is Posting an Apple thread in an predominantly Android forum is that more people are going to side on the side of android then they would apple. Ofcourse the same is true if you're on an Apple site then the discussion will be predominantly for Apple.

Only very few people will do the necessary research to make a valid point while most of everyone else will go by what they know of the device they use. For example I have never owned an Apple anything. I have set up my android to "Look" like apple but I have to admit I didn't like it a bit. But who is to say if I actually got an Apple if I would feel the same way?

Chances are however I will never own and iProduct as I really don't like the way Apple and other proprietary companies do business. I dislike it so much that I have grown a hatred for those type of companies. Since I don't like the way they do business I refuse to financially support them. However at times I have found myself doing just that. Oh yeah HP offers a Linux computer but generally they are not with the specs that I would want so I end up getting a Windows Computer with the specs I want then format it and put on LInux :D I do admit there is a certain self satisfaction I get from doing this as well.

While it is nice to have a discussion in the end it's really mostly one sided as again being in an android forum you will find more support for android with very little real research of the opposing side which does the same thing.

I agree with this^
Something about suing your way to the top bugs me.

I agree. And I have done my research. My uncle asked my advice on phones. I actually recommended the iPhone for him! Talk, text, photos (camera can't be beat on ANY Android phone I have seen), ease of use, etc.

He is never going to so much as change his home screen picture, let alone "mod" it! He does play Words With Friends, and knows how to get to Facebook to see his grandkids photos. IPhone "works", and works well. No freezing, lagging, force closing, etc. Just "works". And I know many of you will say there is no problems on "out of the box, unmodded" Androids. Both my girls have Androids. Both have had issues. No fault of their own....

He got an Android! Loves it....So much for my opinion......

Yea people always rave about how Apple's UI looks amazing etc. But that fisher price look is to cartoony for me.

Yeah, they are too overpriced especially for these kind of specs.

I don't know: if it works for you where something cheaper but better spec'd doesn't, then it's probably worth the money .. to you.

My missus absolutely loathes my Nexus 4 because she struggles to use it - she even needs help getting it to play the music she wants! On the other hand, she absolutely loves her iPhone 5, despite the fact the Nexus beats it hands down on most spec-related measures.

As it happens, the missus gets her iDevices from work so doesn't have to pay for them, but tight as she is (one of the many things we have in common), I reckon she would choose to pay for an iPhone rather than take any, cheaper Android. And it would probably be the right decision for her (though obviously, I'd never admit that to her :D)

Different people have different opinions. If your missus prefers the iPhone, then let it be that way.
