Galaxy S3 Bezel: Is it Metal?

For those of you that own the device already, can you confirm if the bezel is actually metal or if it is just painted plastic that looks like metal? Just wondering if I need to worry about the finish wearing off over time. Thanks!
 
Thanks guys. Its too bad that its plastic but at least the reviews have all had pretty positive remarks about the overall build/fit/finish. I guess you can't have everything, right? Selling my iPhone 4 when my pre-order comes in. Can't wait to give android a try again.
 
Probably better that it's not metal to reduce any kind of interference with all the different high frequency signals going in/out of this device.
 
Be happy it's plastic...

It's light
Durable
Not likely to dent
Absorbs shock
Doesn't smell bad

right but the phone just came out last year NOT 1989, they should have used something better..but oh well

Well then the phone would be very pricy if they were to use good materials with powerful specs.
 
Think about what it is... It's a Smartphone, already outdated by the S4, and with a typical life span of 18 to 24 months. If most of them survive that long then Samsung is doing well. If you buy a new car and drive it and use it do you complain because, after time, it begins to look used?

True. Not everyone would be using the same phone for like 2 years? Even me, the maximum I had ever used was 1.5 years and that was my favorite Acer Liquid e Ferrari (RIP :'( ).

I don't think manufacturers really care. As long as it is usable and "look decent", it's fine. You gave the example of a car. A car is made for travelling. Not unless if it's a Ferrari, most wouldn't care much about that bumper that got scratched.
 
Ill probably still be usin the s3 in FIVE years time lol so tbh, im glad the internals are very future-proof and i dont mind the shell being pretty crap. As long as the display is fine and my un-protected glass is pristine after a year, not a single scratch even though the bezel and battery cover are chipped and dented. Put it this way, although the HTC One X may be better built, im glad i have the s3 because its popularity means it has huge dev support so im sure it has a good few years left in it :)

Agreed. So despite your phone being outdated in years to come, you can just root and flash custom roms, right?

It's not about money issues, but rather about how you take care of your things. Believe it or not, I used my note for only 6-7 months before changing to the S4. Still kind of regretted how I wasted my parents money :(
