Help Decrypt device before Update

desflan

Lurker
I'm running Android 4.0.3 on my Galaxy S2 and get a notification to install a new update. When I click Install I get the message "Unable to update new software because device is encrypted. To update, change setting to decrypt by going to Settings > Security".

I do not rememeber ever encrypting my device.

When I go to Settings > Security, I click the menu 'Encrypt Device', but then the button at the bottom for 'Encrypt device' is greyer out and I cannot do anything. This is the case also on a fully recharged battery.

Any idea what I should do so I can install the update??

Hello and welcome to Android Forums desflan! :)

How odd that your device is encrypted if you had the phone from new and did not encrypt it yourself.

You could either take your phone to the nearest Samsung Service point and explain the situation or manually flash the firmware as per #1.7 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide.
