SMS/MMS notification

I bought my Verizon N2 when it was released and in the last month or so, my SMS/MMS notification doesn't "finish" every time. I have it set on tone/vibrate. It will do the full vibration, but doesn't always finish the full tone I have it set on. Sometimes, it won't even do the tone. Anyone else have this issue? I've also done a factory reset.
 
I just got a Note 2 also with Verizon and I'm having the same exact problem. Anyone else having this problem and or know of a fix?
 
It's not just you. I have been using Chomp SMS for a while and have started having issues with that, so switched to the stock message app. I only received notification for about 1 in 10 messages; I am using stock tones as well.

I don't recall any recent updates, so I don't know what caused the sudden problems with Chomp and stock app.

FYI, I am currently using GosMS and it seems to function fine.
 
I believe it's a stock messaging problem. Go into the messaging app and click settings. Disable delete old messages. Profit.

I tried this and it fixed it. What seems to be happening is lets say you have it set to delete after 100 messages when it reaches 100 messages and starts deleting that's when the notification starts to act up.
