Help No Capacitive Lights

lexluthor

Android Expert
I have a Verizon GS3 stock/rooted.

My capacitive lights don't ever come on.

I do run Lightflow, but already checked with the developer and he doesn't think the issue has to do with Lightflow.

In display/touch key light duration, I have it set to 1.5 seconds.

When the phone reboots, the lights come on as it's shutting down, so I know it's not a hardware issue.

What else can I check? It's probably something easy that I'm missing.

Tbh i cant remember the stock settings layout but isnt there a LED setting?
I really didnt like the look of those lights so i disabled them very soon after getting the phone. I think Rage is right that it isnt his app affecting it

It's not lightflow. I uninstalled and rebooted and still no lights. Seems that after a reboot, the lights stay on just until my desktop is about fully populated.

The only stock setting I see is display/touch key light duration, there are options for 1.5 seconds, 6 seconds, always on, always off.

Could be some other piece of software turning off the lights. Nova? Widgetlocker (but I have that disabled)?

Nah launchers shouldnt have any control over that. Tbh i think only the OS or a root app would be able to control them man

not a solution, but perhaps a link in the chain of your problem. Does your ambient light sensor adjust the screen properly? Reason I ask is because the lights will also come on whenever the light sensor senses darkness.

I can hold mine with screen on and place my finger over the light sensor, the lights at the bottom come on every time.

Thanks for getting me going in the right direction. I just uninstall Lux and the capacitive buttons are working again.

Now I need to figure out if it's a simple setting in Lux or if there's some real conflict there.

Nice thinkin out-the-box there man! This is why i love this site
So those LED are controlled by the light sensor?

I have been using LUX for about a month and my Capacitive button still light up no problems.

Sorry bit off topic OP

GT, can LUX be used to disable that 5seconds or whatever when the screen dims before going to sleep mate?
Im looking for a way to prevent that action. Want it to just go to sleep without warning me by fading the display.
Cheers mate and sorry again OP for jumping into your thread like this

Think I'm good now. Lux has a setting to control the button backlights. I changed it to follow the system setting for button backlights. Think it needed a while after I changed the setting or a reboot to take effect.

If I ever want the button backlights off again, I'll just use the system setting to control that.

Thanks all.

Partly, but they are also programmed to turn on whenever the screen is touched (including directly touching the capacitive buttons themselves).

I'm curious now if his lights come on whenever he touches the screen or if that has resolved also just from getting the ambient light sensor to register the cpu to turn them on? Almost seems like they would be two separate issues, but possibly a problem with one (touching or light sensing) could stop them altogether.

Lux is a really good app. There is a noticeable difference in battery drain from ramping up the main led, but it is worth it sometimes since these SAMOLED displays can be harder to see in bright daylight/sunlight.

The lights now come on when I touch the screen. It wasn't an ambient light sensor issue for me. Once I found the setting in Lux (and then I think I had to reboot to get it to take), I'm good. In the future, there's no point in using this Lux setting on my GS3 as I'm better off just using the system setting to control this (that way, if I want to change it again, I won't forget that I changed it in Lux and it'll be easy to find in the system settings).
