Root Basic Rooting Question

So I have the Droid DNA on Verizon and I want to root it and remove the default software. I've been reading up and it and just want to make sure I understand what I need to do.

1.) Obtain S-off using Moonshine (I have windows and I feel pretty confident doing this)

2.) Follow Scotty85's guide to rooting Droid DNA (http://androidforums.com/droid-dna-all-things-root/652672-guide-unlock-droid-dna.html)
the big question here is where do I start? Since I have obtained S-off do I still need to change the CID? Or do I jump to the second post and
"1)unlock with htcdev
2)temporarily or permanently flash a recovery
3)flash root files"

Is this the correct order? Am I completely misunderstanding things?

Again I am really new to this and any help is greatly appreciated!
 
I can't answer these questions but i'm sure someone will be along shortly that can. If you're new to rooting though i want to stress the point of making a BAckup to you.

As soon as you get a recovery flashed make a Nandroid Backup. Then place a copy of that backup on your pc for safe keeping.
 
After completing moonshine (did it with linux) I was rooted that was all I had to do to get root. After that I downloaded ROM manager from the play store and started flashing different ROMs. Agreed make sure you make a backup!
 
It also unlocks the bootloader and installs a custom version of the engineering hboot (bootloader) that has more options than the normal hboot.

Moonshine really is a nice little piece of software.

yup,just jump to the second post and then skip step 1,since moonshine gives you a nice patched hboot.

ill add a disclaimer in the OP,and try and make some revisions now that we have s off without having to unlock first.
