Help Huge Unidentified Data Spikes... Help

tspot

Newbie
So today I finally update my Galaxy s2 from the stock Gingerbread that it came with about a year and a half ago to CM 10.1 Jellybean.

The reason I needed to do the clean wipe and update was because my phone kept using huge amounts a data, like 100mb in a span of 5 minutes, every couple days. I installed My Data Monitor and it lists the usage as "Streaming Media" which after checking the MDM website it lists as that if it does not know what app is using the data. It seems to have these spikes at different times of the day and if Im lucky it happens when Im on Wifi not my 4g. But last month I went way over on my plan and thats why I did a full wipe to hopefully get rid of the offending program/app/virus.

Well it happened again and I have installed only a couple of my apps back since my new flash. Im really frustrated since it seems like Im screwed. Any suggestions or help would be great. Though I dont want to turn off background data or anything like that as I want to use my phone as it is supposed to be used. I had used this phone for a year and half without coming close to my data limit so I know its possible.

Onavo Count will give you a real time view of what's currently using data. It's been a while since I've used it, but you can set alarms that notify you if apps are using too much data over a set time iirc.

Do you have Play music installed per chance? I've found that to be a huge data hog.

I can try that program thanks.

No PLay music, no media streamer of any kind installed right now. Ive heard that some peoples email have been doing odd things to their data usage trying to sync a account. Though they all tend to say they had some message in the outbox constantly trying to send. Which I have checked and do not.

Check your Play Store app. By default the Play Store app will updated your apps when connected to Wi-Fi. You can turn that off by opening the Play Store, tapping on settings then tap on Auto-Update Apps when connected to Wi-Fi and change it to Do not auto-update apps. Depending on how many apps you have downloaded to your device that could be a lot of MBs of data usage per auto-update.
