Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Right now, this is a silly argument anyway, but it's interesting. My point is, if you google "walmart wimax" you'll see all the reports are old, mostly. The newest ones go back to January, but then nothing since.
yeah, to me it just doesnt make sense to put an antenna on walmart when walmarts are usually in an area with towers around.

im not trying to bring the mood down but those green dots are 30 mile radius and from my understand the wimax signal has from between 1.5 and 3 mile coverage.

Yea, I was going to say if you look aty a singular dot in Nevada or Montana those things are bigger than a typical county...no way there would be that much coverage.

if they could get a signal that was that good, they could cover this country in less than a year lol

o and the more wimax towers the faster and more reliable your signal is. with the evo we can use up to 5 towers at a time. the more towers available the faster it will be like multi threading on a processor

its 50 mile radius actually... for wimax coverage per tower

Yea I was going to say, with a stronger line of sight antenna WiMax can do upwards of a 30 mile radius.

HowStuffWorks "WiMAX Wireless Network"

So even one Walmart could cover a large town/community. Now add in towns with multiple Walmarts, and the coverage/signal strength is even far greater.

Of course, we kinda are over speculating something, that hasnt had any buzz in recent weeks/months.

So anything good EVO news lately?

the clear representatives have been telling people if they are within 3 miles of a tower they can get a signal

To take the opposite stance on what I've been saying, Jackson did say to look at the 4th Quarter and what we're saying could become a reality. I just don't think we should get our hopes up, unless we hear more later on in the year.

If this event is being held in NYC, does that mean NYC will have 4g coverage by then?

You would think if they are showing off this device then they would want to show off the 4g also.

Theoretically it probably has a range like that, but not in a real world setting. Or else they could just plop a $3500 cabinet in the middle of every city in America and give it coverage.

Everything I've seen says it has a realistic range of 1-3 miles (per tower or whatever).

Well New York is one of the markets slated to be getting 4G this year and sooner rather than later so it wouldn't surprise me.

Welcome spridell. From my understanding, it's already there and just needs to be turned on. Also, see this from CNET News.

you cant beat a stylus for accuracy and if they would let you use a stylus maybe the crazy koreans woundnt use sausages as a stylus when there wearing gloves

Non-line-of-sight use of WiMax, as would be seen with mobile devices, will not get anywhere near 30 mile radius coverage. Not even close. Maybe 4 or 5 miles, and that's probably a stretch.

Hey guys, yess do not be surprised if you here of Sprint and Walmart around Q4 2010. This is something Sprint has been talking with Walmart for sometime. If you saw that video Drex left it shows why its possible. All you need is some routers in a file cabinet like enclosure and an antenna on the top of the building. It would benefit walmart and Sprint...it only makes "sense"

As far as froyo goes, i told you nothing is like a nice frozen yogurt on a hot summer day. Especially on or around June 6th waiting in line to get one at a Sprint store. Who ever thought Sprint would be selling Frozen Yogurt? Not me....

hahah Jackson

ohh hope you all liked the hardware, that may be the only thing u recognize...

I thought Clearwire already had a deal with Wal-Mart for their nationwide roll out?

Thanks, SprintFun. Looks like there may be something to this after all.

Seems like phandroid.com is reporting that they recieved they're invite and are going to be attending that evening...

Seems like there maybe something to this bill
(note to self: try not to get too excited) OH HELL YEAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

According to the Intel WiMAX video, the signal is only good for 1/2 to 2 kilometers. That's less than 2 miles, however, existing WiMAX signals can overlap each other to form arrays, which will boost the signal strength.

[Update]: Phandroid will be there! We hope to bring you some exclusive videos and pictures from the event as Rob will be with Sprint execs and industry insiders alike to get his hands on the EVO 4G. Oh, and he
