My First Andriod Phone...

My contract is almost over with At&T (next month) and looking to go to T-Mobile. I have been on top of all the new phones coming out, but I feel even more confused on which one to get. I see that even the new phones are coming out with similar hardware specs as the G1, especially the CPU. Should I wait till next year, I don't want to be disappointed that I could of waited a month for a better phone. I know I'm being picky, but if I'm gonna get stuck with a phone with a 2 year contract, I want it to be able to keep up. Will the updates and tweaking really make a phone that much better?

PS I'm borrowing my friends G1, and I'm loving the Android OS alot.

Verizon's Sholes/Tao/Droid is to be released anywhere from October 25th to December 1st, and the specs are one of the best of the Android phone specs.
