HELP! My house has been invaded by flies and gnats!

When it's all said and done, I think my only problem will be getting the soapy goo off all the surfaces I sprayed it on!
Listen... Hear that? It's the sound of ZERO flies buzzing around my house today! (No gnats, either, but they don't make any noise.) ZERO and ZERO!!
Last night, while Big [lazy, spoiled] Brian was eating seconds [or thirds] of [nightly] canned food, a fly was LITERALLY landing on his back--and he couldn't even drum up the motivation to turn around and look. He just kept eating.

A final (I hope!) update: It's over! :congrats: Yesterday I did see one fly in the house, but it was late in the afternoon and I'd been going in and out all day, so he probably was just an errant fly who came in when the door was open. The PROBLEM flies and gnats seem to be gone.

It came down to silly little dishwashing detergent mixed with water. That's it. That's what I used, both in a spray bottle and in a bowl. Non-toxic, didn't have to worry about the cats (obviously I didn't spray it in or near their bowls), and it worked.
