Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Theoretically it probably has a range like that, but not in a real world setting. Or else they could just plop a $3500 cabinet in the middle of every city in America and give it coverage.

Everything I've seen says it has a realistic range of 1-3 miles (per tower or whatever).

Those cabinets would most likely be way way more then $3500. Most ppl do not know how overpriced telecommunications equipment really is. I would bet that the whole cabinet is around 30K-50K.

Welcome RoadRash. Wish I could remember where I read it, but they said each cabinet would cost $3600. Of course that doesn't include the fiber optic cabling, the antennas or installation.

Welcome zfwjs. We were all over that story yesterday. Some thought it was fake, but I think it will the kick off of the EVO 4G and WiMAX media blitz.

I know we have all seen this but I was reading some of the comments under it and noticed this one. This would be great marketing!!!!!!

"If they wanted to be really cool, they would hook the phone up and show the PoP movie on the big screen played from the EVO.."

What do you all think?:D

I think thats what they are going to do on the event.

Odds say yes but I had not given it any thought. This will give the phone a great buzz and highlight a feature that it has that non of the other phones have. What a great way to roll it out if this is really it.

The whole thing does seem a little fishy. On the other hand, the timing would be perfect and what a great way to kick off the EVO 4G / WiMAX media blitz. May 12th is only three weeks away.

So do you really think its fake and the Android bloggers are all going to New York for a big elaborate hoax?

No, not at all. But the typo, and the poor quality of the screencapture of PoP on the device, and the lack of major-outlet media reporting, all point to this being fishy in some way. I'm being skeptical to avoid being disappointed :)

...if the event is real. Why haven't Engadget or Gizmodo or any other non-Android blog reported it? What about that glaring typo?

I agree. But maybe the typo was done to cause more attention and discussion. Maybe a stunt. I dont know. I'm sure that someone will get fired if it is real and the invite made it pass the final check and no one caught it.
