Can't update my S2 via Kies.
Hi guys, I need some help please!!

I want to upgrade my ((...SamsungGalaxyS2 Gt-i9100...)) from Gingerbread for Ice cream sandwich... But when I open kies; thats what I see:
"Your Device does not support software updating via kies". and..
Current Firmware version: (PDA:KG6 / PHONE:KG6 / CSC:KG6 (KOR).

Why? Please reply me, I "WANT" the Ice cream sandwich on my SGS2 without rooting

This is the correct forum for model i9100. You should get your answer here. :)

Hi Moudy

This thread may be your answer: -

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/559534-forget-kies-upgrade.html

Please read carefully - I posted a link to an XDA thread in my first post and you will need to read that extremely carefully. I upgraded initially via Kies to ICS subsequent to which I upgraded to the latest stock firmware posted on the XDA thread.

Hope this might help you :)

I'm just scared of this odin, I'm new to android mobiles... And I'm just afraid to do it from another way than kies... It's the same thing?? Kies and Odin upgrades are the same?

Yes it is except you do not have to wait for Kies to inform you (via your network of course) of an upgrade. I started using Odin when I rooted my SGS2 but these days apart from backup benefits, I really do not see the need to root anymore and my phone currently is unrooted running the latest Stock firmware as per the XDA thread.

As I have said, read up thoroughly - if you read my thread you will find step by step instructions as to what to do. And read the XDA thread too very carefully so you can get a feel for what you are doing. If you proceed with this method you will be updating a stock GB firmware with a stock ICS one. When going from GB to ICS it is always advisable, after the update to do a Factory reset, which of course wipes everything from your phone. If you are comfortable doing that then that is the way I would recommend you go. I myself upgraded from GB to ICS via Kies and did not do a Factory reset and then upgraded to the latest Stock firmware using this method again with no factory reset :) I have no issues :) The firmwares are Stock, so are advertised as "no wipe" and do not come loaded with addons/bloatware and the like :)

Good luck!

Welcome to Android Forums, Sheraz.

That message usually indicates that update will come from your carrier. If you bought the phone new, under contract, I'd check with your local carrier for updates. If you got it without contract, you may have to update it manually.

Further to lunatic59's reply, it can also mean that your phone is rooted or has at sometime in the past, had a different firmware flashed to it. Possibly by the vendor. See #1.5 and #1.6 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide for more details on this and how you can update manually, in #1.7.
