So tempting to call off today. Working in this heat is unbearable. Ugh. Today is Employee appreciation/Family Day and they gave us baseball tickets the Pittsburgh Pirate affiliate here in town called the Altoona Curve. For those of us on second shift we are told we can call off and it won't held against us(we are treated like high school kids) but you won't get paid unless you use a vacation day. I already gave mine away to girl I know that has two kids. I know they like to go to the Curve games so they'll really enjoy it. But like I said, because of the heat it is tempting to call off.

Hmm didn't you say there are rumors of layoffs? It's not a trap is it?
Yep. Then again there are rumors every summer because car loads go way down, mainly because of coal, but the company stock is still doing well. However, the big wigs were doing a tour last week(not uncommon) and some are coming back on Monday to do an audit. The kind of audit wasn't mentioned. It could just be inventory? Or maybe it is 'lets see how many people we need in each department'?

Poor McCooks. Gotta have nice, air-conditioned working conditions in a KITCHEN - wasn't that in the job description or an OSHA regulation or something?
What a bunch of wusses. Try working outside in Bahrain in August when the heat index is 135 degrees, every day, for 5 weeks straight. They'd melt and quit in the first 25 minutes. After that I vowed never to complain that it's too hot... and I never have.
