Official Metro GSM device/network/Tmobile-ish discussion thread

Anybody with the new GSM S3? I'm thinking of switching from the Motion to a GSM phone, and the S3 would probably suit my needs just fine since I've been happy with the Motion. My main concerns are building penetration (which sucks on Metro CDMA) and speed vs. the Motion/CDMA in general. I see some positive comments regarding these on the S4, would like to confirm it's the same on the GSM S3. Also root, there is one thread on rooting the new S3 in the device section and it seems that Motochopper works to root it, but some additional confirmation would be nice.

The building penetration on the gsm s3 will be the same as the s4, and other tmobile phone/network.
I am fairly certain the metro s3 is the same as the second version of tmobile s3, the one with lte.
You can check on xda for rooting roms and recoverys.

I have the cdma s3 and my signal inside buildings has been very good on few instances I had no data but at least had phone signal

Well here in NYC I've had difficulty with penetration on CDMA with multiple phones. I doubt it would be much different with a CDMA S3 since it's mostly a matter of the lower frequencies Metro uses and not related to the individual phone as long as they have similar radios. I'd like to hear from people who have recently switched from CDMA to GSM (ideally in this area) to see what their experiences are with penetration and speed, to help me determine whether to make the switch now or wait.

Higher frequencies but anyway tmobile uses much better Panels than us that have like 20% better penetration

my friend got a tmobile s3 and is getting lte speeds of 35mbps+
will the metro s4 get access to the tmobile lte network?
is tmobile unlimited internet truly unlimited if i switch over?
and my metro lte has been horribly crappy since byod came out in my area anyone else getting that?
im in sfbay

Tmobile LTE and well you wont even have access to metro LTE towers

Are you Sure that's current info?

I thought that was the initial plan but someone in the know had reported back here that had changed that to allow T-Mo Lte to access Metro Lte too.

Yes its current, it could change in the end but for the time being they wont be able access one another. Unless they send a new 4G card to every CDMA/LTE customers but I wonder if they ever even considered that. It'll still show up as metro LTE though on Tmobile LTE because of the APN they might even be the same antennas broacasting 310-260 & 311-660 but CDMA customers wont get on 310-260 and GSM wont get on 311-660 even though they may be the same exact everything just except the id

so the s4 on metro WILL access Tmobile LTE? idk where i read it will only access tmobile hspda+
If your market does not have LTE yet then you can not get on t mobile LTE.

Even if your market has metro LTE you will not be able to get on it with the s4.

One of the reasons the BYOD is limited right now I imagine.

The wifi calling is one of the things I considered. Metro has Joyn, but Im not sure how that works. Never used it.

I'm fairly new as a member and I basically joined so I could answer this one issue. I was one of the first to by the LG Spirit last February upgrading from the Galaxy Indulge and I've used the joyn app a lot at home as I get real crummy reception inside my house, like some, (stucco is a really great rf sheild) and calls drop out over MetroPCS network unless I stay in certain rooms. I've had certain issues like a "account suspended" error message when joyn is logging in. At first, I'd say untill this month actually, it would switch the calls over to the MPCS network, sometimes in the middle of a call, but now it doesn't. There is a check box in the settings menu to select to make and receive calls over wifi when connected to wifi, which is all the time when I'm at home.

From what I've read it should work outside of MPCS service area ok as long as you are connected to wifi. Also check to see if your phone isn't dropping the wifi as mine does that from time to time. I've had to get on my ISP because my uplink was <1Mbps, and my downlink went on the fritz.:(

Any rumors on the combined spectrum?
No but evidence its happening soon

-Legere posted a screenshot of a test site in NY with 10x10 when metro & tmobile currently run independently on 5x5 and he had #faster speeds #coming soon

-Source says tmobile is readying a PRL update for CDMA so they can see the new spectrum that CDMA will be running on

-Fact that some LTE phones wont get LTE after July 31st without a update

-We've been sharing the same MOCN recently evidenced by being assigned T-Mobile IP's

Spectrum merger complete in Orlando?!!?

Eww! Eww! EwwEww!

Let ME be the first! :D

Any idea if the Spirit will need a PRL update? Or a OTA update?

I was on the metropcs website and I saw the s4 in the list of phones, so I clicked add to cart and I bought the phone. I guess you can now buy the phone online and activate it through the phone.

Just looking as well. Also have the LG optimus F3, the L9, and the other GSM phones that we have already known about. Kinda nice to see 'em all listed together and able to purchase on line.
