Help backlight keeps dimming when using kindle app

Hi, I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 and when I use the Kindle app the backlight keeps switching itself off - it will come on sometimes then it just dimms and I can't read any book.....Help its driving me mad
 
Where is auto lighting? I am having the same problem. I read several books with no problem and then it started dimming within seconds of opening a book. I didn't change anything and can't find anything that might make a difference.
 
System settings and also with the application, lower right side, a couple of taps brings up the brightness control.

I was using this app last night and noticed that when I swiped down on the top of the page (in the Kindle app with a book open) I pulled down a menu that had a brightness control on it. See if you have this set on the dimmest mode.
