Phone is Useless when the Phone Goes Silent Multiple Times a Week

This is really interesting on the unknown phone numbers thing. That sounds like a possiblity of what is happening to alot of us here. I wonder from all of you. In your settings under Call and Phone settings.... do you have save unknown phone number to contacts checked? Is this what is happening? the phone tries to save an unknown number to your contacts and screws up somehow?

I've never had an unknown number call me, and this still happens.

I tried replicating my exact call this morning that resulted in the silent phone bug, but no dice. It's frustrating that I can't make it happen when I want to. To me that means that part of the equation is something beyond my control. There must be a certain combination of events that results in the bug.

I'm trying one thing. I restarted my phone. Did NOT do the airplane mode trick. Seeing if that changes anything.

I know I had it two weeks ago with 500+ hours without restarting my phone. I took calls for over a week and a half without problems.

My vibrate has been out for a week. I've been getting by because the vibrate is so low I usually just check my phone every couple of minutes anyways. And when playing Xbox I check everytime I die or at work everytime I go outside. This isn't a problem for me, I just find it odd. Running 2.1 as well.

I think I found a trend in my eris. When I hang up on a call and immediately start a new call when not waiting a minute or 2, it triggers this phone silence. Maybe it has something to do with the dialer lag?

Hey, I've been following this forum for some time now and just wanted to add my two cents. I had the silent phone problem after installing both of the leaks, but ever since I unchecked the quite ring on pick, I haven't had the problem. Idk, that might help.

That's definitely how it happened to me the first time it ever happened, but not always.

I also have never had an unknown number call me...

This bug has hit me 3 or 4 times but not recently and every time it was from a known contact.

Ok. Running into the same problem here. I'm installing AppBrain as soon as I reboot and I'll post link to my profile. I agree with nestor that it seems that the audio output just completely quits until you reboot. I still get vibrations when I get a text or calendar event reminder.

I'm running 2.1v2 leak. I'm thinking of reflashing and starting from scratch to see if the problem occurs with absolutely no apps installed. That would be kind of drastic for me but I really would like to find a work around for this problem.

Dont bother reflashing, i did that already. And the first call i got, it happened. So its nothing to do with apps or anything. Its a straight up bug. Heres a question though. When you guys end a call, do you turn the phone off right away? Ive been waiting about 10 seconds before i kill the screen and so far so good. But again that could just be all a coincidence.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if this is what was holding up the OTA? I mean of all the "bugs" we've seen for the leaks, this is by far the most frustrating to me. Plus there seems to be no common thread to it....

It drains your battery because it's constantly trying to execute the AudioTrack command. See my debug output earlier in this thread. The debugger showed that it's trying to do that same thing two or three times per second until you restart.

Good. I didn't want to reflash.

I'll also try waiting 10 seconds after calls. Let us know if it still craps out. Even if it is a behavioral work around, I'm okay with that. Thanks.

That makes complete sense.

Is anybody on 2.1 not having this problem using the default ringtone? I noticed that the htcringtonepicker app has given me problems on 2.1 and this morning when my alarm was supposed to go off, the phone showed the alarm screen and didn't ring, then rebooted. I'm guessing there's an issue trying to play the ringtone.

I think its because this phone was rushed out to have a phone to release with the Moto Droid and it should have never been sold. Hence the EOL after 7 months on the shelf.

No....I think its because your running a TEST VERSION of the rom. Nothing was rushed out.

I just happened upon this thread scanning all the new posts. If it helps any, the Hero guys have been experience audio dropout and dialer lag too using our leaked 2.1. I have no idea if it is similar to what you all are having happen, but maybe this could be of use.
Someone thinks they have a fix that is pretty much a frankenrom mash up of eris and hero libs, and the new sprint 2.1 kernel.

Your username... It doesn't offend me, but what about those whose ancestors were slaves?

Mods, if it's quite alright, I'd like to have my name changed to "Adolf the baker" please.

[FIX] Audiofix. NEED TESTERS FOR NEW KERNEL - xda-developers

Yeah, they're definitely experiencing what we're experiencing, and they have a technical explanation for it, but it sounds like they still haven't solved it for everyone (and certainly not for those of us without root). Also, their method for recreating the bug doesn't work for me.

I just reset my phone, waited a while and called it from a known number. It rang! Then, I opened gmail and called it, it didn't ring, and wouldn't after 5 or six calls. I reset the phone again and called it, it rang!!!. I opened gmail again and called it, it didn't ring...and won't ring, it may very well have to do with syncing/data download while receiving a call....

hmmmm.

Good find. But how do you tie it in to a member finding a loop bug having to do with audio?
