"n" is a hardware issue - apparently the Nexus 1 has the hardware but its not enabled (like the FM transmitter?)...I don't know if the Evo will have "n" hardware support or not. TBH though, I don't think its a big deal. I'd wager 99% of people use b or g.
 
OK all - somewhat OT - considering my situation explained in post #5573, what's the best way to try to get the OK for an early upgrade?

That's tough then...but it never hurts to ask if they can't bump it up. With their new customer service initiative, you never know. But I'd wait until a concrete release date for the Evo comes out.

Personally, I think its
1-A great writeup on the EVO.
2-That more women are talking about the EVO. (wish we had more here doing the same).
Kudos to Taylor over there. It's one of the best written, informative blogs I've read recently on the EVO. And while its true that we already know all the stuff that was blogged, it great seeing the EVO so highly praised and getting the word out in social media blogs. The more the word gets out the better for Sprint, HTC at large.

Now, I know Shoe did not mean anything by his comments, I think its not a matter of women being geeky or not or hip. Shoot, most women I know of are as geeky as I am. One even puts me under the table with all the info and gadgets she has. Its just that in this IT/Media/mostly male dominated world, you see more males than females. They are out there, but not as much as I would like for them to be.

Anyway, remember folks, this thread is the definitive source of EVO info that alot of media, bloggers, etc are referring too. I've also been told that both Sprint and HTC are also watching this thread. So keep it real.

And if Taylor ever joins us, we welcome you with open arms.

Taylor is a sassy gal to go along with her inner geekdom. I've always found that attractive but yeah this isn't the Dating Game last I checked, although a few pages ago I thought I found myself on ESPN.com

I would wait until evo pricing, release date, etc. comes out to call sprint. Then tell them you have had problems with you bb and are looking to upgrade. You've been looking at the incredible, iphone and evo. Because you're not eligible for an upgrade the evo will cost you $XXX.XX. If you go to Verizon the incredible will cost $200 + your early termination fee plus you get the added bonus of getting the incredible earlier. You can use the same reasoning with the iphone if the numbers work out better. As long as the $200 + early termination fee is less than the cost of the evo you can probably work out at deal to stay with sprint and get your upgrade early. Even if the price difference won't work out in your favor I've heard if you threaten to cancel service they'll do a lot to keep you.

I don't see how we can control what all of our members say, especially when no harm is done. Shoemeister said Taylor's article was Entertaining, Funny and Informative. The way I interpret the rest of his comments is, however, this is the EVO 4G forum, so we're already aware of what she's saying.

It's great that we're getting visitors from outside sources, including the media. I agree with Shoemeister's assessment, that the article was informative and funny. It wasn't aimed at geeks like us in a phone forum, but I still enjoyed it a lot. In fact, it was one of the best write-ups I've seen on the EVO 4G.

nexus, hd2, and evo all have wifi N built in (I know nexus and hd2 has it, and evo should have the same card, so...)

The question is will they turn it on?

Wifi n is a touchy subject.

It should in theory increase battery life, and it does not seem to do it.

It should also allow faster download speeds, but that is a mixed bag too.

The simple fact is you should not be downloading massive files with your phone.

I have a 10Mbps home internet connection, well it is really a 12Mbps, but you never get all that.

The wireless router is a g/n router. So the 54Mbps is never really achieved because of the slow internet connection.


Now throw on top of that is the support issues and the cost of 50-60% more for the radio, it is not really surprising that they have enabled it.

Why try something that is not really going to be any help to anyone?

Unless you are downloading, gigbytes of information?

Even if you are syncing, you are limited to the write/read speed of the card, and even with a class 6 card you are not going to see any difference.

With a class 10 card ok, assuming everything is perfect.

I simply do not understand why faster is always better?

If it is not a n connection, it is all the sudden worthless, even though you will never use the speeds of a type n connection and there are not that many type n routers.

But faster is always better.

Understand, that for the majority of the people on the planet type g will do them just fine. Type N has some issues.

JMD - Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for the advice. I really hate to threaten - because I don't have any real interest in leaving. But - I know how retentions works.
 
I figured we get fast responses here but does anyone know where can I get this wifi/gps/bluetooth/etc widget.

Hey all. I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I amcurrently using the Palm Pre and like all of you, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the EVO. I have never owned or played with an Android phone, so my question is such: My son(9yrs), wants to get the Samsung Moment. Once this phone receives the 2.1 update, will the operating system be somewhat comparable to the version the EVO will be running? I ask because I was wondering if I could play around with his phone to get a feel and learn the operating system theat I will be using on the EVO. I want to thank everyone in advance who takes the time to respond.
 
The Moment lacks HTC's Sense interface which is placed over the Android OS and enhances the user experience so things maybe a bit different between the two devices.

Sense drastically changes the UI experience.
 
@ Autosuggestion - Yea, I forgot all about the Sense UI. I will at least be able to play around with it and get a general feel for the Android OS.
