To JB or not to JB??

So I've had my Note LTE for a few days now and I thought about upgrading from BG to ICS. I dl'ed the latest version of Kies only to find out that if I upgrade there it will have to be to JB.

My question is this. For those of you who had your Note running GB but are now running JB would you go back to GB if you had the chance?

I would not go back to GB. However, I suggest that you root the phone so you can go to JB, GB, or ICS whenever you want.

I'm running a very smooth ICS ROM w/some JB features sprinkled in and it is buttery smooth!

The reason I'm reluctant to root my phone is that I know for a tinkerer like me it's like opening Pandora's Box. I'll be obsessed with finding the exact right ROM. It'll drive me crazy and consume too much of my time. I'm staying on the sidelines for a reason.

I am the same way but the Note is 2 years old. Rooting it makes it feel brand new. :D

I gave in and upgraded to 4.1.2. Did a factory reset after the upgrade, disabled 52 apps that I never use and so far the old Note is rocking along just fine.

And that is the key right there. A Factory reset after an OTA is recommended. Not doing the reset makes the device sluggish

One thing I've noticed since the upgrade yesterday. The FB app is a resource hog and doesn't really run all that well. I deleted it and now use Flipboard as my FB app. Much better.

I tried spatio and atrium today. Both are nice but I don't like ads. Found Fast Pro. Very very nice and no ads. Runs very well on the i717.

Hate to be repetitive but if you root your phone, you can put an ad blocking app. I never see ads.:D;)

I'm perfectly happy with stock 4.1.2. I have everything nailed down that I don't use and it runs very well. Paying 2 bucks for an ad free ap doesn't bother me.

I just heard about an app greenify if you root your phone that will hibernate all apps you want until you click on them. Then things like facebook will not run in the background but do so when you want.

I am thinking of rooting my Note and getting this app - till I get the Note3

Greenify is awesome. I was a big Juice Defender fan until I tried Greenify. Works very well and helps my battery life on all my devices by at least 20%

Also, if you root, you can put some great ROMs on the phone and they get rid of the bloat and you can overclock the phone to make it faster and smoother. I just put JellyBean Sandwich ROM on my phone and it feels like a brand new phone.
