Root Phone too hot? Low battery? Try these...

Dude I don't know how else I can explain it to you guys.. Do I have to trigger my GPS and then wait five minutes and show you a screen shot of a hundred thousand wakelocks? Give me five minutes, I'll be right back.

Now I know you take this personally dude because you found the GPS fix, but you shouldn't. You did an awesome thing for A LOT of people, but this is two minutes.

Edit: if you do the math, it's 631.74 wakelocks per second.

It's not the same for all is what I'm saying.. Maybe it is for you and a couple of others but it's not the only reason and not everyone's reason. It's not consistent enough to dub it as the sole cause..

Jesus dude... If everyone having this problem installed BBS I would be SHOCKED if even 2% didn't see the exact same thing

I'm truly not trying to be an ass here dude, but there isn't any proof that your gps is even on. I'm just trying to offer people an explanation, don't get so butt hurt and offended over it.

Im terribly sorry that's how you're taking it. I get what you're trying to do but it's a suggestion you're offering just don't call it a solution.. It obviously didn't even work for the gentleman that posted the thread.. That screen shot was with GPS on for 20 mins after exiting out of g maps.. As you are trying to offer help so am I by letting them know this isn't always the case.. I have no problems with you. Please don't take what I've said out of context.

i don't have overheating or battery issues and i use gps fix. just sayin.
it starts getting warm if i use gps and google maps constantly for over 30 minutes. but i think the phone would be warm from using any app for 30 minutes straight.

you could have something boogered up in your /data backup and you revive it everytime you restore it. also when you flash different roms back and forth here and there stuff gets boogered up on /sdcard (internel sd) which carries over to the next rom you flash. i format /sdcard frequently while flashing stuff and i am not having the issues many report. not even a kdz flash or factory reset will wipe /sdcard it has to be done manually in recovery

This is one of my first posts....so please go easy on me. First thanks to everyone that has made all the mods and things possible. I don't have overheating issues or battery drain..( battery does drain a little faster than stock ) However even though I get a strong GPS lock when using GPS Status it locks on with at least 12 sats in like seconds....it just wont work with google maps. I keep getting "location cannot be found". I have also tried MapQuest and it won't work either. I am running PG's 9-3-13 build with johnnyl1111 paranoid over it. I also followed Swainsmith82 on how to properly install a rom on the motion and it is the first time my GPS has started to work. So after this long message anyone have any ideas?

HEY got it working by clearing cache and dalvik then rebooting...

This is valid though, I had to go back to PG 8/29 because the new one with the GPS fix makes my phone get really hot and theres a crapload of partial wakelocks because of it, when I use 8/29 without the gps fix, things are normal as could be, but when I apply it even out of the multitool, BBS shows a whole crapload of partial wakelocks in a very small amount of time.

I hope I didn't mislead. Thread subject says 'try these'... Doesn't mean 'this will fix everything', means 'maybe something here will help'. I tried his GPS method and it made sense to me, but it didn't WORK for me. (I didn't run the 'GPS fix' on my phone because to my understanding, it's already worked in, (right?)...

Anyways, if I thought the GPS theory was bs I wouldn't have thrown it on there along with a little credit to the author. I was just trying to help someone who has the same issue I'm having.

Now to try 4g again...

I totally get all that, but if i flash bobz clean with everything wiped, I don't get any heat or battery drain, as soon as I flash the GPS fix and gps is turned on my phone gets hot AF and the only way to fix it is to kill gps and any app that uses it and toggle airplane and reboot.

It is totally possible that there is more than one issue at work here. Perhaps some people's phones are overheating from some other culprit. All I was suggesting was that if you run BBS and find that you are getting hundreds of thousands of partial gps wakelocks, then that is why your phone is getting hot and your battery is draining in an hour. I am not downing the GPS fix, it's the only reason I'm still using cm10 at all, but it is definitely 100% causing some phones to overheat, that's all i was saying.

Anyone try under clocking or completely shutting down one CPU ? I remember my phone use to get extremely hot when playing 1+ GB games plus texting and browsing and maps . Maybe you should try getting a thinner cover . Its not meant to act like a sweater just a protector . Trust me your phone will be fine in extreme heat I don't know anything about condensation though . I use to try to grip my phone with my two fingers to reduce heat from my hand . Hands plus protector could be the cause of the unacceptable overheating . Just my though :/

It seems to be OK for me now. I'm guessing my issue has to do with the networks. It got hot while u was using Pandora a little while ago, but I was out doors and I live in fl. No battery drain this time, though. All good for now. I did kill all my gps like it was suggested to me, but I'm about to kick it back in and see if it makes a difference. Obviously, my switching to 3g could only be a temporary fix. We'll see how it goes from here anyways...

I'm running bobz 5 21
With dirty unicorn with all fixes including gps
My phone gets really hot if on demand is set as cpu governor.
Change it to mcsm-dcvs
It cools down
Even with cpu1 forced on it does not get hot
As long as I have it set to msm-dcvs
If I remember correctly msm-dcvs does not just scale cpu speed but also voltage
