OEM TV-out Adapter not working?

I recently purchased this:
Samsung MHL Adapter at TigerDirect.com

It's a genuine Samsung part, supposedly compatible with the Note2, but when I plug it in I get "No signal" on my TV... Playing a video (tried a .FLV and a .MP4) doesn't change anything. I have a charger plugged into it (Genuine Samsung adapter from my old Intrepid, but not a "Note2 charger" (though it charges the Note 2 fine) so not sure if that's the problem)

Is there a setting I'm missing? I know on my EVO 4G I had to install and run a program to enable TV-out, but from what I've read this usually isn't required on the Note 2...?

Tried it... I got a charging notification when the phone first booted, but no video out... Do I need to use soemthing other than the default video player?

I had to reboot to get any output but it worked. Beyond that I have no answer.

May have found my problem, it seems there are 2 different Samsung OEM MHL Adapters, the old 5-pin and the new 11-pin. I'm trying to find a list of which models are which, but just looking inside the end of my adapter I count 5 pins (though it's so hard to see I might just be missing them...) Though from what I'm reading you'll still get a signal, it just wont show anything (I'm still getting "no signal") so not sure if that's the problem or not... Will test a few more things and see if I can find the model list

You need to get a 5 pin to 11 pin adapter. The MHL adapter you bought is for previous generation Note and S2. It will not work with the Note 2 unless you have the 5 pin to 11 pin adapter.

Yeah, chat with Samsung just confirmed that it's incompatible... (also noticed that Tiger changed their listing to remove the Note2 and S3 from the compatibility list...)

Will the S3's 5->11 adapter work with the Note2? I see a lot of S3 adapters on eBay for a dollar or less...

Yes needs to be 11 pin. Thought that's what you had. You may well still need to reboot when connected...

Yes it will. The S3 and Note 2 share the same pin mappings for MHL. I have a cheap generic 5 pin to 11 pin that works fine with the old MHL adapter I had when I had the original Note. Shouldn't be an issue with the Note 2 once you have the adapter.

Just tested the adapter and it works flawlessly! it even mirrors the non-video screen! (not tried it playing multiple streams in multiple windows, but if this works I see no reason it wouldn't work otherwise)
