Root How to unlock bootloader and install a possible temp custom recovery

Willster419

The Casio Smartphone Guru
adb shell
su
reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
(done)
so far i have been able to root, get fastboot, extract the recovery, and make a temp custom recovery. I have not been able to test it, but if someone wants to, be my guest. it worked on the C771 when i made a custom recovery for it. please keep in mind that all i did was find a builder site and press upload. anyone could have done it.
you can flash it via fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
DO NOT TRY TO MODIFY THE BOOT.IMG THE PHONE WILL BRICK TRUST ME :(

I have a brick... Happened because I wrote the google camera to the system, then tried to delete it and something happened in titanium. When I rebooted it won't get past the "now loading" screen. Long story short it hangs before ADB can see it, and it won't reboot into the liited recovery that is on the phone.

Been using a Motorola now for about two years. Lots of support with all the tools to fix almost anything. Not so much with this phone. My replacement will be here tomorrow, so I'm going to watch this.

There is no advantage in someday updating to Jellybean, not much is gained. I don't think this will ever see Kitkat so I'm all in for hacking but I got to have a recovery that actually does something so I can go back when I screw up.

talking about that other(official?) camera, you put in your rom space, and it bricked?... thats some old bullshitt..

i was always piss scared to do anything too crazy wwith the old commando because of a lack of recovery for so long. things might look that way again... :(

The problem is that Verizon has the bootloader locked. The problem is the way they lock it. If you look at the emmc portions you will see there is a aboot.img. that .img will look at any recovery, kernel and check it. To see if it is signed right. That is what under stand.

Alright, I understand. There probably won't be much of a workaround. The Motorola's have a huge following and developer support. They have managed to go around the locked bootloader found on many of the Moto phones.

Not having a recovery that you can make a nandroid backup is going to be expensive to experiment with. On the Google Camera I had read that making it a system app can solve the non-functioning video camera. Well, it didn't so I tried to delete it. It wouldn't delete so I power cycled the phone and that was the end of that.

I got into some serious trouble with my wife hacking on the old commando because I screwed up 3 of them before GNM made us a recovery. I think I may have snuck this one by, so I won't be doing anything for a while, probably not even rooting (yeah, right).

back when i could snag an htc apache for 50 $ i would flash em like that.. now at the 499$ rage i am a bit more careful heehehe

i have doing some reading there may be a way around the locked bootloader. the samsung s4 has a loki patch that is being worked on right know. they almost have it working all the way. with some modding it maybe used on the commando. it works around the locked bootloader. maybe a dev will look into it and get it working on this phone. they have tried it on a lg phone and got it to work.

download the m130 unbrickable root kit. we can re-use it. similar to steps of how to root m130 :) put into folder C:\sdktools
download the custom recovery, rename it to recovery.img
download the origional recovery, rename it to recovery.origional
open cmd and cd to C:\sdktools (if you put it there)
adb shell
su
reboot recovery
fastboot oem unlock (if you have not done so already)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot.
your phone should still (hopefully) boot normally. then when it is booted, do:
adb reboot recovery
cross your fingers
then tell us what happends. since i no longer have this phone for an extended period of time, i can not try it myself. if everything goes right, you would be the first device with a custom recovery, and making a leap to further progress commando science :P
good luck!

Something not related to this...

I installed the Google Edition Camera. As others have found out, the video camera does not work. I read somewhere that making it a system app can help this. So using titanium I did. It didn't make any difference so I removed it. Something bad happened in that process. When I rebooted the phone it would not go past the "now loading" screen and I could not make it boot into recovery and I could not see it with adb.

I was bolder before that happened, 'cause it cost me money, and would have tried this.

Thats what happened to me, couldn't get past loading... $99 Later I had a new phone but a lot less enthusiasm. Salt water damage is a sure pay...

it has always been my understanding that if you cant adb to it, they have no way of saying you have a void warranty due to software alterations, and your shit shoulda been covered under that or insurance.

i just tried this, and got hung up at gzone pre loading screen battery pull and im getting white verizon, but my rom already has trouble booting.

Had the same problem with the phone stuck on a white verizon screen during boot-up. Because this happened on Christmas day i had people trying to text and call me...the phone would display the text or the incoming phone call screen when received and it would allow me to answer the call or text. after reply to text/hanging up the phone, I would see a blank black screen with the top pull-down menu (battery life indicator/time/etc.) and when you swiped down there was a settings icon which could get you into the settings portion of the phone, long story short I had to do a factory reset and lost all progress on games and such but I was able to get the phone working again.:rock::thrasher::stupido2:

It sounds like you didn't have a launcher. Not something I'd expect to change on a hard reset. Glad to hear though! How did you do the hard reset?

I too am watching to make sure I don't brick. Not flashing back stock recovery to take the OTA. Plan to use Verizon warranty to get a replacement later on.

Ok i am ready to try this custom recovery,

this phone now supports Isis, which could be a part of 666, the mark of the beast, so I could care less if i brick it. I would rather not though and use it as a MP4 media player device. I done see why we pay for phones and data and all when we could use radios ham and things like this http://www.alianzahd.com/

I plan on fixxing my old phone c771 if I can figure it out or getting another c771 from eBay,

I would like a Google nexus 7 WiFi only that was as tough as this phone, the only reason I am interested in root is for privacy. Like this site explains

adb shell
su
reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
