Double press home button to unlock screen

khumash

Lurker
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. To unlock the screen, I have to press any button, and then swipe the screensaver away. This is not convenient. I was wondering if there's any app that can change the way to unlock screen. I would like to re-map double press home button from Voice Command to unlock screen as I don't use that feature. Or any better suggestion is welcome as well. Thanks.

@Clementine_3: thanks. But I do need lock screen, just wanted to change the way to unlock it. Double press home, double press power button, or any combination that makes it easier is fine.

Pressing once is good but it's not safe to me. I may accidentally pocket unlock the phone. That's why I am looking for double pressing or some key combination.

I just can't beleive that some people here can't understand that NO LOCK already EXIST in android throuhh preferences of locking screen.
Just tap home button and you're free to touch anything.

CAN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND
WHAT IS
DOUBLE TAP AND WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR ??!

I use Screen off lock app for my last phone.
But that's also doesn't do what I'm exactly looking for.
It's just convinient for lock screen imidiatly from scren instead to use your power buton , but it doesn't do anything to avoid UNNECECEARY (and annoying) SWIPE TO UNLOCK.

First & Best This is the very first App on Google play to utilize the sensors for on and off functions. Has been developed many years ago. All other apps are made after this one. And I have been a big fan of it since it's creation. Plus it just WORKS. Simply
All I can say is THANK YOU!! I just place my hand or wave it near the top of my phone and it goes to sleep....and when it's asleep (black screen) I just place my hand or wave it across the top front and oila! It wakes up! Thank you for taking the time and your skills to create this app for android peeps. It's MUCH appreciated! TEN STARS!!!

The trouble with apps that are waiting for a sensor to detect something is they eat battery.
I used to use Flip Case Control which uses the prox sensor to wake/sleep the screen when you open/close the case.
Now i have Power set up to not wake the phone, Home wakes it and Home long press sleeps it.
I dont even use a lockscreen and never get any "pocket dialing" or anything

I've heard from one user that after upgrading his GS3 from ICS to JB 4.1, powerCall stopped working. If someone with GS3/GS4 could try it in JB (4.1-4.3) and let me know, I'd be much obliged.

Sorry i just tried it and it doesnt work for me (i9300, 4.3 rom, no lockscreen)

I usually use one tap of home button to wake the phone but i turned that off to test it. Hope you can fix it because double tap would be better.
Pm me with a beta if you want tested

Use Widgetlocker, then activate long press back button to unlock. You can also set how long should the press be. Pretty easy and one step only. Plus you can remove the slider on the screen so the phone will be pretty secure if you don't have shortcuts on the screen and disable widget clicks. It's going to be as secure as possible without having to use lock pins or patterns since it's not a common unlock procedure.

Just an update: I think I know why unlock didn't work on GS3. After playing around with my nephew's GS3, I noticed that GS3 is often slow to wake up from sleep, so power button double-click often ignores the 2nd click (the one that usually turns screen back off). By the time I click the power button for the 3rd time, my click timer runs out and the app ignores it. A few times I was able to triple-click to unlock or double-click slowly (you can try it), but I need to change the code to make it usable on GS3.

At least in GS4 RC2 rom. It works a bit laggy too. I wonder why it works like a charm on my gingerbread HD2.

Updated powerCall with a hack to try to make GS3 unlock. Also, added new app shortcut option. Curious to find out if slow double-click or triple-click does anything on your GS3 when screen is off and swipe unlock enabled.

Hi, OP!

I went through this thread on my long search for this functionality (which should be in all stock ROMs in my opinion). Great minds think alike. Hope this helps you.

I think I found the solution to your original question. It's an app by Oskari Anttalainen called Combination Lock. It's an unlock screen / screenguard replacement with the following crucial features:

*)Unlock screen by a pre-recorded button combination of your choice (I use <vol down><vol down>). Note, that some buttons, such as PWR cannot be used.

*)Wake on any button. A pleasant surprise indeed. What this means, is that you can bypass all intermediary lock screens by entering combination directly in deep sleep. I don't think there is a faster way to return from sleep (Except possibly by disabling lock altogether, with NoLock or such, but we still _do_ want a key/screen guard, right? In fact, you should compare CL and NoLock to see if there's any overhead at all. I think there is none).

You can use CL as a security lock, by _not_ printing unlock combination on intermediary screen ;) and using a non-trivial combination.

Add: PowerCall was mentioned. I tried this app. Not great; it pauses a while on stock lock screen. For the OP's question, Combination Lock is better in every way.

Thanks salan. So the problem with that app is that on a samsung, Home button opens it (over-riding the button combo) AND home cant be used as one of the combo buttons.
On a plus side its fixed mine and the op's problem because i now need to press home twice to open the phone lol. Thanks man. Nice app that needs some work

The dev notes:

"Android Ice Cream Sandwich (or 4.0) users: applications can no longer suppress the home button presses on this version of Android. Therefore the lock screen can always be dismissed from the home button. This is a known issue and is being worked on. While waiting for a fix, you can still use Combination Lock if you like and enjoy the other features."

I did not notice this bug, since I'm on a Galaxy Pocket with Gingerbread. This sucks bad indeed! Guess it's actually a problem with the OS policy. Maybe you can tweak your system files.

Lol, yeah, I suppose it still works then :p

What a beneficial and ironic twist.
