iPhones??

However, it appears that of that 9 million, only 5.5 million units went into the hands of customers. The remaining 3.5 million are sitting in carriers stock shelves. Apparently, the majority of those are the i5c.

Analysts disagree about Apple iPhone sales figures

A lot of unsold 5Cs then. I wonder if that's by the time you get your iPhone on a subsidised contract, there's not really much difference in price. So people probably think might as well have the better one, why bother with the lesser one if it's only a few bucks difference.

Yeah, I don't know who came up with the pricing scheme but it wasn't very good. They'd have been better off not even introducing the 5C in the US.

when will one of those be made? :D

In about 300 years. :D

Maybe I'm old but the screen is way too small for me. Yes, I know their screen is the perfect size for most hands but I don't buy your mumbo jumbo science. Now back to engineering stuff.

The screen on my old HTC Hero is way too small for me now. Whether that's age, or just being accustomed to increasingly larger screens since then, is open to debate. :)

Actually this is the first year I haven't been drooling over new phones. I'm really happy with my GS3. It works great, has a slim waterproof case, and NFC. At the moment I have no other desires.

I agree with you there. Don't get me wrong, the latest generation of phones is simply amazing. There's never been a better time for a new phone buyer. However, my Nexus 4 has everything I need. I don't need a faster processor because I have yet to max out this one. The S Features don't appeal to me, and 4.7" is just right IMO for a screen size. Don't need LTE because I live hundreds of miles from it.

I've had my SGS3 for over a year now. It still runs very well. I actually hope that it will last another 2 years. So far so good. No slow downs that I have noticed.

I love my GS3. even more so after the 4.2.2 AOSP ROM. so far it's the closest i have to fluid iOS with Android's level of customization. best of both worlds. best thing is, it does not look like unicorn feces like iOS 7.

Well I went from my old HTC Dinc with a 3.7 screen to a 4.3 and I'm happy with my big fingers. A friend has a Note with a 5.9 screen which is nice but seems too big for me. I know the price tag is! lol

From what I've read, wireless charging is not all that efficient from an electricity use standpoint, so it wouldn't be surprising if they banned it all together. It's the EU afterall.

Apple will be running into trouble in the EU. The powers that be are trying to declare one universal charging system.

EU plans to pass common phone charger law: Et tu, Apple? | ZDNet

From the article -

"Back in 2009, the European standards agencies chose the micro-USB as the universal interface point for smartphones in the now 28-member state bloc. It came after pressure from consumers and industry groups who were concerned about the lack of interoperability between device accessories. If you had a Nokia phone, you couldn't power it up with a Motorola charger, for instance.

Mobile manufacturers were told to either sort the issue out themselves or face mandatory EU legislation. A non-legally binding "memorandum of understanding" saw 14 different companies, including Apple, sign up to a pledge to commit to offering a compatible charger on the basis of the micro-USB connector."

Thanks to the EU four years ago, we all mostly use standard charging connectors and mostly chargers as well.

I'm looking at 3 different Bluetooth and 4 different phone chargers that are good for nothing, that most people sent to the landfill.

And felt ripped off every time I needed a new charger and cable to deliver a few volts.

Apple agreed in principle 4 years ago.

What was required within the last 1 year for iPhone 5 buyers?

A new cable and charger.

Connecting to a TV? An Android MHL adapter is ten bucks plus a couple of bucks for the hdmi cable.
Check the prices and lack of standardization for iDevices on that.

Hats off to the EU - keep accessories in play and out of the landfill.

Applies to some Samsung products as well as Apple.

So does this spell the end for Apple's so-called MicroUSB ripoff known as the 'lightning connector?'

Probably. Unless they can make a port that's compatible to both microUSB and Lightning, kinda like Samsung's new port that's compatible with both microUSB and the new USB thing. The cable looks weird though.
