Root [HOW TO](gaining root)unlock, downgrade, and achieve s-off with htcDev

OK. I guess I was missing this in my frustration. This is everything from the HBOOT screen:

INCREDIBLEC XD SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.92.0000

TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.07.28

Basically, now that it's downgraded to the HBOOT-0.92.0000, I can't get it to accept the fastboot commands, so I can't progress to step 5 in Scotty's guide in the first post.

I also can't get it to accept the RUU from HTCDEV, so I don't know how to progress, because I can't even start over.

since you are already s-off, you dont need to follow this guide... all you have to do is flash recovery and the superuser files if you would like root...

Hey Scotty, Smashed up my dinc(1) this morning so I bought another one from a local retailer NIB as far as I can tell. Did the HTCDev unlock, ran through all of your steps successfully till 5.
After 4 I get the bootloop. Hboot is locked. It boots into the OS, i cant tell if its froyo or ginger cuz it just reboots. So here's where I'm at...

*** LOCKED (OOW) ***
INCREDIBLE XC SHIP S-ON

CWM was installed in the earlier steps, but disappeared after step 4
HBOOT was unlocked earlier also, but locked after step 4

What to do?

the bootloops are fixed by most folks with a factory reset in hboot and/or re-running the downgrade ruu. try the factory reset first.

everything else you describe is normal. the downgrade ruu replaces the recovery you were running wth stock, and hboot ends up relocked. youll have to re-unlock it in step 5 :)

Hey Scotty,

Must have been on the old thread when I message you so plesse disregard it.

I do have a question tho, read thru most of this thread and didn't see it askrd.

Since we have to downgrade to 2.2 anyway, couldn't we just run unrevocked at that point?

And these radio version numbers are killing me I've seen the latest end in .20 and starts with 2 something as it is on my phone right now, and the file I downloaded from the guide starts with 4 I'm sure its right but what's with the differ version numbers.

Fixing to root my dinc at 5pm cst, as soon as I get my laptop will let you know how it goes.

correct, after downgrading to 2.2, you would run unrevoked to get root and s-off...the radio versions start with 2... the software versions start with a 4... they are two different things...in the download section, the radio filenames may refer to the software version the radio came from.

this is all the incredible's radios:

Cool ok Thanks Copying all my data onto puter right now, Will i need to format my SD card to Fat32 or is it already formatted that way? Like to avoid it if I can..

mount the sd card to your pc...right click on the drive, select properties, it will tell you the file format

i reccomend leaving it fat32, always makes things easier should a future issue occur :) ...and when formatting, dont use the "quick format" option.

Ya I didn't never even did that back in the day, well everything went perfect, almost, I lost connectivity in the end so I don't have the new radio, the hboot, or cm 7.2 in yet, but I am s-off and unlocked and rooted with out an issue, I tried to switch ports, reboots, reinstall drivers, etc ,etc, i'll get to it later, person wants there puter back....

Some tips, When Trying to reboot back to hboot menu with phone make sure Fastboot is off Settings ->Applications.

I Had Another one but I forgot It....Gotta Go Thanks tO BOTH of you, That Was so simple.

Mike

awsome! glad it was helpful :)
Hey Remembered what The Other thing Was, I lost Connectivity Cause Verizon Cloud Drive got installed while I was in the Proccess Of What I was Doing and I'm Guessing it installed it's own drivers, and hence interupted the Connection....

I do have one more question, I've got CM7.2 on the phone now and running good, My HBOOT is still 1.07 and My Radio Is 2.15.00.07.28, The Question Should I Flash The new "Software" even know the HBOOT an Radio are the same?

Thanks, Mike

your hboot is current, but your radio is the old froyo version, might want to consider updating that :)

damnit i get to step 4 where i have to do: c:\miniadb_inc>adb push mtd0.img /sdcard/,
any ways the result of that is:failed to copy 'mtd0.img' to '/sdcard//mtd0.img': Permission denied

anyone know how to fix this

Edit: before i get bitched at, about how i should go back int the posts to find the answer, I already have and none of the solutions have worked for me , my drivers are the correct ones, i DO have my sd card in my phone, and its only on charge mode not disk drive mode

that error is typically because your sd card is inaccessible. usually because the user has it mounted as an sd card, and not in charge only mode. if your 100% sure thats not the case, the only thing that comes to mind is the possiblilty of a bad/corrupt sd card,or an issue with the phone.

are other apps able to use the sd card, and can you see it when you check settings/storage?

as sdraw said,a copy of your entire cmd window would be helpful.

ok i am pretty sure my sd card is fine( its a 16bg class 10 formatted to a fat 32 before i started), as for other apps i use the music app every day and thats playing the music off of my sd card, i can redo the entire step 4 thats not a problem and i will post up the cmd window when i get it done

cant seem to get adb interface to recognize my dinc now this is getting to be very frustrating...i have been working for a while now and ready these post:

Installing HTC Incredible Android SDK Drivers | - Part 1

http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/173270-universal-windows-usb-drivers-adb-bootloader-disk-drive-htc-sync.html

anyone know why my adb would just stop working overnight

just adding that i do have adb drivers installed:

adb.png

some general tips for troubleshooting:
troubleshooting connectivity issues:
*make sure you have changed to your adb/fastboot directory!
*make sure usb debugging is enabled(checkmarked) to use adb in the OS
-try a reboot of the PC
-try different usb cables and ports
-dont use a usb hub
-dont use usb 3.0
-make sure nothing capable of comunicating with the phone is enabled and running. htc sync, pdanet, easy tether, and even itunes have all been known to cause issues.
-windows 8 has been known to have issues. try a windows 7 or older machine

failing the above,
-i use these drivers for fastboot and adb(donwload and run as admin): http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe (mirror)

failing that, try manually updating the drivers in the following manner:
-put the phone in fastboot mode(select fastboot from the hboot menu)
-open device manager on the PC
-plug in phone, watch for it to pop up in device manager.
-update drivers with device manager, pointing the wizard to the extracted
driver download folder from above

note that you can check the connectivity of the phone, and make sure drivers are working by in the following manner:
-open cmd window. change to directory containing adb/fastboot utilities

-adb with the phone in the booted OS,usb debug enabled, enter:
adb devices in a cmd window

-fastboot with phone in fastboot(not hboot!),enter:
fastboot devices in cmd window

in either case,a properly connected phone with working drivers installed should report back the phones serial number.

dont discout the effectiveness of a reboot, make sure usb debug is still on for adb(doesnt matter for fastboot),and i have learned personally that not all usb cables are created equal

ok well i have 3 usb cables and the one i was using the other night was working fine and i dont know of any reason it would just stop,i have tried the other 2 cables also and to no avail: nothing, the same thing exact thing as the first
i have also rebooted my phone and pc multiply times and still nothing.

i guess the only thing to do is keep trying.

sorry i dont have a better answer for ya... it may be the "something running on the pc" thats casuing you prollems. unfortunately ive see alot of connectivity prollems where weve troubleshot everything several times, everything looks 100% correct, and still nothing. in most cases these folks have success by switching to a different computer, without ever really knowing what was casuing them prollems :(
