Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I am indeed going to be getting the Nexus 5. However, I am currently using an iPhone 5.

I know that it is blasphemy but the wife is done with android. She loves it but she doesn't need it. I've kept her on android since the beginning.

I'm ordering her iPhone tomorrow. So completely for compatibility's sake, I will be carrying an iPhone and the Nexus 5 when it launches.

My wife uses Facebook and texts. She's wanted pretty cases and a better camera for taking pictures of our son forever. We are expecting another kid in March and I want her to have a better camera as she takes so many pictures.

Anyway, I can't believe I am typing this out on an iPhone. However, because I am waiting on a sim, I am currently tethering to my G1 to use data. That counts for something. ;)

Nevertheless, I can't wait for the Nexus 5. It's gonna be sweet!

Night y'all!

Jmar's using an iPhone?!
He, it was funny when I was at the Verizon store the other day waiting for them to tell me they're messing with my plan. There was a young lady, around my age complaining about what I think was a Bionic. She's like, the battery life is terrible, it's slow and everything is force closing. I just want an iPhone.
I think she was going to have to wait a while though since they didn't have any in stock. :p

Good morning everyone - TGIF!

So I know there's a lot of G2 praise and jealousy here, but I am blown away every time I check the Battery stats in here. I had 5+ hours of screen on time yesterday before the battery was under 10% and asking me to plug in. SO ridiculous - my Nexus could barely get 1:30 of screen on time before it was dead.

Here is a shot from this morning - the camera is really, really good but I feel like it comes up short of the camera in the 5s from samples I've seen. I am still blown away by some of the shots I get from it though - sharpness and colors are spot on.

Are those 5S samples from press releases or actual use? I just feel like they comb over as much as possible to only release the best shots (as every company SHOULD do).
Stigy, finding any reason to root yet? How's the software experience?

Nice pic, Stigy! Sharp and vibrant.

Jmar: Congrats to you & Mrs. Jmar on the 2014 Jmar download!

Well folks, I'm going to distract myself whilst waiting for the Verizon Note 3 to come out. Darling Bride & I are off to a quaint bed & breakfast in the north Georgia mountains for the weekend :D

It won't be such a bother to make the drive, now that the stupid stitches are out of my back. Healing up nicely.

She'll have a relaxing spa massage tomorrow afternoon, and then tomorrow evening it will be dinner at the finest steakhouse restaurant in town. Then Sunday, it's back on the road to Tennessee. Never a dull moment, but the trip should be breathtaking.

And when we get back Sunday night, I'll only have THREE DAYS to wait! Whoot

Have fun and behave, kiddies!

Well, 4.3.1 is out. Just got the ota on my LTE Nexus 7 this morning.

Congrats on your newest bundle of joy on the way Jmar. :)

I rooted for Xposed (removed battery icon), Greenify and the Nav Bar mod that someone came up with.

The mod basically removes the black gradient and makes it a flat black (like the GNex) and changes out the Menu button for a recents button so all apps use the Action Bar overflow like Android is meant to be.

See screenshot below.

Whelp, just chatted with a CSR online from T-Mobile. Looks like, being a DC resident, it's not possible to enroll in a phone payment plan. I have to pay in full. :(
Verizon wins another day....

Really? I find that so hard to believe. TBH though, buying a Nexus device at full retail from Google Play isn't that much worse than buying the Note 3 subsidized from Verizon.

Yeah, if the Nexus 5 comes in ~$350, I'll consider it.
I even asked if I bought it in VA or MD, would it work (and my # is from NC anyway). She said yes, but if my billing address was DC, which it is, nope.

Well, you know the saying about CSR's. I would try another one just to make sure if you get a moment.

I might pop into the local store down the street on my way downtown today just to get confirm.
We're still a couple months away from our Verizon contract being up so I'm just price shopping at the moment.

Disappointed that the camera and battery are going to be lower spec'd in the Nexus 5. Plus screen is smaller.

That's two significant points in the G2's favor. Put another way, is $250 extra worth having a better camera and battery? Yes, you'll also get a real Nexus, but the G2 load is pretty decent and you can always load a new ROM.

Once I heard the battery and camera were cut back, along with no Verizon availability, my decision became clear. That's assuming that the Nexus 5 even comes in at $350.

So just some points to think about.

They released information about the nexus 5 already?

Yes, you can always load a new rom, but development is always bigger on a Nexus device plus the roms are more stable due to not needing to reverse engineer drivers/binaries. Having the smaller screen is actually a plus for me considering I wanted it to stay at 4.7 inches (small hands). I do agree having a nerfed battery and camera is unfortunate, but as long as the camera is satisfactory I'll be ok. If I need to use a camera for good pictures, I'll use a real one.

But yeah, everyone has a different priorities list. I'm glad so many people like the G2 and it's serving them well. :)

True, but since the Nexus 5 looks to be a G2 lite, the devs are expecting to easily port Roms from the Nexus 5. And according to the FCC filing, the size is actually very close between the two. But I do agree that MP mean nothing with the camera, as long as it takes great pictures. And if power consumption is similar, than the smaller bat may be OK. But having a bigger battery is never a bad thing.
