Root [Boost Mobile] ota update SPH-L710_MD7_to_MG2.zip

I did my best and I got stuck in a boot loop and when I tried to flash it I got the same error as the guy above called idiotboy. I even tried to do it a second time and got the same error. from what was said afterwards with his was that its the build prop. well I changed that and still go. could you simplify the steps even further by going steps 1,2 and etc please? if not then its cool I'll just have to restore stock to get the update.

0. Make cwm.twrp backup
1. Download build.prop.bak from op
2. Copy to sdcard,
3. move it to system/ folder,
4. delete (or save to desktop) build.prop,
5. rename build.prop.bak to remove the ".bak",
6. reboot.
 
alright. I got the build prop and I go to root explorer systems and I paste it there its asking to overwrite something, I do that and it is finished. you say to remove the.bak from the build prop but that build prop isn't the one I copy and pasted in systems. I tried it and that's how I got the boot loop. what I want to know is after overwriting the build prop before I remove .bak from the OTHER build prop, what should I do? it won't work if I remove the other .bak build prop. the step can't be ight because when I go to flash I still get the same error as idoitguy did. with all that said can you just list the steps like 1-10 or something to be more clear because the normal way.....either I'm not getting it or missing steps to do it rjght hahaha I'm trying though.

if you followed the steps there should not be nothing to overwrite.....

are you on stock rom? completely stock...

I really don't know what else to say, I would think that it would be a bad file, but it did work for me and somebody else. so I just don't know... try using ODIN to flash stock rom

maybe somebody else could step in here and make the steps even more explainable?...
 
I am completely stock. I have the stock rooted ROM nothing touched now. ran the ota verifier all things good 0 errors. all I have to do now is use the build prop. however things was messy as I said before. I'm going to try Odin. I appreciate it this all. truth be told I only want to update because maybe just maybe it'll fix my 5-8 hour charging issue I been having for weeks now.
 
I don't have a lap top or desktop so I can't use Odin so I tried mobile Odin and still it didn't work. I got a install error so I Google searched it and found out mobile Odin doesn't flash zips but tars so I made it a tar file and it didn't recognize the partitions. I'm considering going back to full stock no root but only thing is I can't flash the stock back due to so other issue I forgot.

Woooooooow!!!!! You don't want to be messing around with Odin packs n all. You lucky it didn't Chang your partitions.... That wwould have given you a bad day...

as you found out Odin does not flash .zip files, it does .tar files..,
this zip file only works with recovery, probably only stock recovery

And if OTA verifier says 0 errors, why are you trying to change the build.prop ?
 
Hmmm, someone needs to be thanking their lucky stars right about now. That could have ended up very very badly. Possibly to the point where even Shabby's method wouldn't have fixed it. :D
 
because idiotguy got the same error I'm getting still and I thought like you told him that if you changed the build prop things will work just fine but they don't work at all. I have a idea and if it won't work oh well no big deal. is it possible I can voodo root keeper app, make a su back up, unroot my phone, flash the original stock non root software, reinstall my apps including voodo root keeper and reinstall root and have root on a complete stock android with a stock recovery?

I don't know why its not working, I'm sorry if its my file, it worked for me many times...

Voodoo won't help if you flash a ROM ... Only helps when you take the ota update...

What you can do is titanium backup your apps, flash mg4 rooted, install suppersu and titanium, and restore apps.... Oh, you might have to flash modem if you want the mg4 baseband as well...

ok your making me feel bad... i work 14-16 hours most days, i look at the forums a couple time throughout the day while waiting on a customer, its tough for me to type every thing out in a way for someone that does not understand all the lingo and how the main programs work/operate... nothing against you, im just short on time so when i do try to help unfortunately my details are short too.... sorry

but here we go.... :D

- get Titanium Backup ★ root
- backup all your user apps using titanium backup (system too would not hurt)
- make a copy of your internal sdcard titanium backup folder onto you external sdcard
- Odin flash ODIN Backup for --> SPH-L710_MG2 (read instructions)
- install SuperSU
- install Titanium Backup ★ root again
- using titanium backup restore USER APPS and data ONLY (you can restore some system data like wifi or Bluetooth but do them individually and be careful)

to update baseband:

- download [root] adbd Insecure read the description for a link to get it free
- from the app enable insecure adbd
- now you got to use adb.... or you can use Terminal Emulator
----- here is a simplified adb
----- unzip
----- connect your phone
----- click on cmd.exe
----- type: adb shell
----- type: su
- backup what you got type:
[HIGH]dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/mnt/extSdCard/modem.bin[/HIGH]- from your sdcard move the new file "modem.bin" to a safe place on your computer...
- then download my modem_MG2.7z
 - Extract the 7-Zip file
- move the modem.bin to your sdcard
- then push it to you phone type:
[HIGH]dd if=/mnt/extSdCard/modem.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1[/HIGH]-reboot
