I read this yesterday and then the home button/stylus became an item of concern on my Verizon Note 3 (Made in China). An OCD concern only because it functioned properly - but the stylus was really hard to get out.
So we first opened a new phone and just swapped my stylus. It was something with the stylus causing to wedge in there harder - replacing that solved that issue!
Next step, conquer the home button thing that I am going to call a myth. I believe this was an intentional design and some people are just having trouble seeing it. I say this because we opened 12 BLACK phones and 3 white phones while I was standing there. (The saleslady helps me every time I go in - she knows I am OCD about electronics.) EVERY one had the issue. Not one was different than the other. Some were made in China and 2 in Taiwan. So I determined it as normal and then moved on.
The next step - to resolve my OCD was to go to At and T and test theirs. I have a friend who works there (because everyone I know is a nerd) and his that he bought had the same "play". We opened 3 white and 3 black. Same thing.
I truly believe people not witnessing the issue are just having trouble seeing it. It is VERY slight and VERY subtle. I would like to see a video of someone NOT experience the issue. This will finalize my myth theory and either debunk it or prove it. This will also set a lot of our minds at ease - and provide us with what the next step should be. Often as an early adopter, you end up with some crazy item that is resolved by getting a warranty replacement down the line.
To reproduce this issue, for a video from a person who has no issues:
1: Place your thumb on the button and pull it down.
2: Play your finger nail on the bottom right corner and slightly push it up.
3: Do the same thing on the left as in step 2.
4: Repeat steps 1-3
I personally know several people with this phone and all of us have this "issue". A video of someone NOT having the issue (no matter the carrier) would be great. Also, if it someone on Verizon, that would be a bonus since it could be carrier related.
Thanks!
Additionally: It is REALLY hard to notice on the white because the color of white and silver around the button kind of clash. At first glance with bright lighting, I thought it wasn't doing it. In a darker room, it was easy to notice.
