Preferred wifi getting drowned out; phone not discriminating

The wifi on my Note three was getting flooded yesterday with too many free wifi connections in a mall (the Westfield Centre, Stratford - home of Samsung centre) and it just refused to connect to the wifi I actually wanted it to. This being my pocket camera's wifi.

Tried everything including fresh battery in the camera, rebooting everything, telling it to forget my camera wifi and starting again, etc. It would sometimes momentarily connect for milliseconds and then drop the connection despite reporting an extremely strong signal.

This is the second time, I've noticed this happening, when there are an abundance of open wifi signals around. When there are few wifi signals, the problem goes away.
