Update offered in different language?

wunay

Android Enthusiast
Galaxy S4, T-Mobile, sim free, PAYG, UK.

Using Samsung Kies today I was offered an update from PDA:MH8 CSC:MHA to PDA:MJ7 CSC:MJ8..
But on proceeding to install a message was displayed before the final acceptance. This was not in English but possibly Polish?
1. Aktulizacia OS (Android 4.3)
2. Pridana nova viastnost (KNOX pre zakaznikov, atd)
3 .....

I am reluctant to proceed with this update with a different language being displayed. Previous updates have been in English.

Advice please.

Sounds as though your sim free phone has a foreign, for the UK, CSC, (Consumer Software Customisation code), code. Follow the instructions in #1.3 of http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/760098-18-galaxy-s4-models-know-yours.html to locate your phones firmware details... 3 lines of information.

There is no harm in accepting this update for your phone as long as you accept the English language during set up.

CSC:I9505OXXDMHA
is displayed as per your advice.
You indicate foreign?
Why would the update be shown in a language other than English?

Because you have a non carrier specific Open European, multi language pack, unbranded, firmware that allows its sale in multiple countries which cover releases for, currently, Spain, Ireland, Bosnia Herzegovina, Nordic Countries, Cyprus and the UK. The update, incidentally, is to Jelly Bean, Android 4.2.2 and is the precursor to Android 4.3, which you may find is also available after your present update or in the very near future.

I googled CSC:I9505OXXDMHA and in with my limited knowledge this appears to be Polish? but this is an unbranded phone purchased for the Carphone Warehouse that has not been rooted or anything like that and has only had updated software via Kies.

What are the implications of this?

Posted before I saw your reply.

After your reply:-

The phone already indicates Android Version 4.2.2

but this is an unbranded phone purchased for the Carphone Warehouse

That answers your question then. CPW are Europe's largest independent telecommunications retailer with circa 2,400 stores in eight countries

The phone already indicates Android Version 4.2.2

Correct! The update is also for 4.2.2 and, as mentioned, a precursor to 4.3.

ironass.

Thanks for that, your response is much appreciated by one of the ancients.

No problem wunay. Glad to help. As my dear old dad used to say... "You're only as old as the women you feel". ;) Good old dad!

My S4 has just downloaded, but not yet installed V4.3.
UK PAYG Unbranded T-Mobile unrooted as per purchased with a few apps and no intention of rooting in the future.

Feel concerned with regard to the update to V4.3 after seeing all of the problems with that update. Should I be overly concerned and go ahead with update?
