Google Barge Up Close!!

Its just floating data that will never lose power . Reason for this is it floating the floating barge is produce electrical watts to keep data going . Very nice that they have money for this but can't fix roads and bridges in our communities .

Many people are guessing the barge will also have displays for Google products.

And with stairs going up to the top I'm betting that will be a party area.

I wasn't aware it was Google's job to fix up our roads and bridges.

Probably just as well..... "Sorry, this road/bridge is not compatible with your car".

I'm dying to know what these actually are. Suggestions so far include floating presentation centres, and data centres (reasoning: water is excellent for cooling )

I love the fact that even the local harbour authorities aren't sure (or perhaps aren't allowed to say due to NDA) what they're for. I love a good mystery! :)

No its not but i thought that since they can't repair the google map problem they could take a turn to repair roads and bridges.

If you haven't read Crytonomicon - do.

Google has clearly decided to withdraw and create their first offshore data haven.

So what you're saying is that they're creating their own floating soverign nation? How do I gain citizenship for the ship and what must I do to get ship shape?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean to barge in on this converstaion...

Yeah, that's exactly the idea I'm floating out there.

No worries.

A lot of people don't realize that sovereign nation data havens exist.

Most people have heard of point to point tunneling for data transfer.

What they don't know is that before that, there was point to point data snorkeling, so named because of the way the headers would pop up at random times.

That's what really led to pier to pier sharing.

PS - we've checked your IP - if you're on a Mac or using Nova on an Android, check your dock for your dual citizenship application.

It would be cool if it were a datacenter, but even with their patents on seawater cooling, and power generation, a datacenter isn't much good without massive bandwidth.

I doubt their google blimp wireless system they've been working on would make this feasible or even satellite links. Too high of a latency for a normal datacenter, and probably not enough bandwidth for a backup datacenter.

My theory is that this is the start of google's navy. They're going after the underwater fiber spots that GCHQ and NSA are tapping their line, and going to mine it :)

Are you suggesting that Aperture Labs isn't real?

Oh ye of little submarine to house said electronics.

Of course, I'm not suggesting that Aperture Lab's isn't real. But of course you know, we all live in a yellow submarine :).

At any rate, wherever these barges port, I hope that they not only let stars board but also common folk. In other words, I hope that they aren't stern with their guest list. Fore I think that these could be used to benefit all humanity, especially AFTer a supposed XM anomaly.

Well, I think that's all I have to say for now so I better wave goodbye.

I like the cut of your jib because you're not hard over - I think that you should take a bow.

I've noticed others are waiting for it to go boom while others hoping for a beam up but you're really on an even keel here.

I agree about including the common folk on board and hope they take that tack and don't just feed us a line. I'd give them two points for that.

While others are using brick and mortar, this sounds like a fresh breeze.

(That's 12. :D)
