Root Best ROM to have preloaded on N4?

OcalaFlGuy

The main reason I'd want it rooted would be to enable LTE of course.

I see several different ROMs on rooted phones already on SWAPPA, which one is the most widely used and error free?

Any to stay away from (unfinished?)

I'm kinda skeered of doing it all myself but it seems there's lots who Have but have done it via different ROMs.

Help.

Ha!

Well, allow me to totally Eff your mind up then.

You know it's the same mental torturecise to figure out When to Buy just like when to Sell ... (And I even have $100 chillin' in my Paypal account.)

They are of course, not making anymore N4's. I ALSO have no need or desire to give Metro $5 more a month now either. Prices for nice 16 G ones are already down to 220.

Now, Every Day you Wait to buy is one more day the phones for sale get used and one more day for the nicer ones to get sold. How low will they go? How long should you wait to get the nicest N4 for the least money?

You feeling Lucky? :p

Know whatcha mean. I'm hoping that they'll (the 16gb ones) go down closer to, or even below, $200 by the time I have my tax refund. I was thinking about the N5, but really think that I'll end up going with a 4. I've been looking at the gnex as well, but have decided that I don't want to get a two year old phone.

I'm already on the new price ; when my wife and I got our Motions, we moved up from the 3G plans, so she got on the $40 plan and I got on the $50 plan. We have the multi-line family discount so we're only paying $80/month.

That would make The difference if it were me.

I'd be surprised if they drop the price of the N5 down below 300 and even that's gonna be awhile. An argument could be made that maybe even in the next month Most of the people selling N4s for N5s may be sold. Or maybe enough for the price to go Back Up a bit used. I keep the N4 page open all the time so I can see at least how many are for sale.

The sooner you get one the sooner you know you're the only one who can screw it up.

If I were you, I'm not sure I'd quibble over $20 and get a really nice 16 G one now for $210-220. That's Already not much money for a Heck of a lot of phone.

You can have LTE enabled on the stock rom, the only thing required is to have the .84/.33 hybrid radio or a radio firmware of .33 or older. The hybrid radio is preferred because it includes the muted audio fix.

Can every N4 do Both of those radio options?

So you root and flash a different radio? Or does rooting allow a hidden radio menu?

Bruce in Ocala, Fl-yes, you're right, I'm clueless on this

Every Nexus 4 can access Band 4 LTE if it has the correct radio file. Once the bootloader is unlocked, you can flash the radio file through fastboot or via a flashable zip in cwm/twrp. Once flashed, you use a dial string
*#*#4636#*#*
to access the phone menu. By phone information, you will see a drop down menu that you switch from WCDMA to LTE/GSM. Then once you back out, apply the propper apn setting and you're good to go.
However while on the stock rom, or various custom roms, the LTE will auto-disable after each reboot and must be re-applied with that dial string. You can make it permenant with root by editing/adding a couple of lines in the build.prop

hi ...everyone makes a big thing over LTE but i find 3g ...HSPA+ to be very..10 mgs download fast with better battery life and no hoops to jump thru...i just think people r missing out on chasin the newest thing
