Root [International] Changing ROMS

I have just updated to 4.3 and I like the official google rom for 4.3 with the holo theme and without touchwiz.

Would the official google rom for a htc work on my galaxy s3? I cannot find the google rom for samsung only CM10 and i dont want to use CM10 if I can help it.
 
Not without changing around a bunch of files, updater-script, etc. If you flash it as is, you will end up with a brick to my knowledge.

I'd either use CM, or possibly post a link to the one you want ported, and perhaps see if a dev could do it/help you out.

Is there nowhere I can get a copy of it before samsung start messing with it, maybe from the android dev website?
 
You mean the pure Google ROM?

Hrm...I'm not too sure...You could always download the HTC one I suppose. But again, it wouldn't work with your device...Maybe someone will port it though? There's guides to porting rom's too, if you wanted to take a stab at that.
 
Yeah, pure google similar to what's on the Nexus range of android devices.

I've only just got the gist of rooting and flashing, doubt I'm ready for porting just yet.

Looks like I'll have to go with CM 10.1.3 as I've just found this is supposed to be a stable release now.
 
Well, if you read the post thoroughly and do it exactly (and of course have a backup ROM to flash...) it really isn't that bad. I'll post the link here, in case you get curious and want to give it a read.

Just a word of advice though. If you DO decide to do this, try and find a device that's very similar to yours.
 
In general DONT just throw a rom from another device on unless you have a bit of coding experience.
Cyanogen is about as close to stock google android as youll get and their 4.4 rom (CM11) is coming along very nicely (but stick to 4.3 for now)

Have you made a backup in recovery yet? :beer:

I'm guessing the 4.3 update you got was for the HTC and not the S3?

As far as I know the S3 will never receive the Google Play Edition, it'll just be touchwiz. For pure android it'll have to be a custom ROM like CM or SuperNexus
