The "life cycle" of any given thread. The "shelf life" of any individual post, as it becomes yesterday's news, disappears from view, falling from page 1,499 to page 1,500.
The "do's and don'ts" when starting a thread; Title selection, shaping the initial concept, predicting how it will deviate from initial intent when released into the wild........And why some well crafted ones stall at
one response; And others, clearly flawed concepts doomed to fail.....Persist for years.
And they needn't be classified as "dead", just "Mostly dead". (Said Miracle Max, in that ancient movie.)
Aside from an introduction, I have yet to create a thread of my own; I figure if I have the idea, someone else has likely already done it, why should I clutter up the works. Reuse, repurpose, recycle.
And any insight I may have regarding thread construction obviously comes primarily from the prior courage of others to put themselves out there, so I can do my thing. Always easier to cowardly criticize others' work, rather than offer any of my own!
Before I was "The Dredge", I was "The Closer".......Come in at the last minute, with fresh eyes, after someone else had done 99.8% of the hard work to build the whole thing...... And be a total bitch. Pick out the 5 most obvious flaws in the project, obsessively polish those areas, and turn an 8.5 into a 10.
Just like they likely would have, given more budget and time, and weren't so busy doing the hard labor of putting up the 8.5 in the first place.
Or maybe we just weren't that uptown.
