Ask me anything about the Nexus 5

It seems my reboot didn't correct duplicate texts. My latest thinking is maybe some of my contacts are in more than one place. Is this feasible and if so how do i find the "linked" contacts.

They would all be listed under the People app. However, it is unlikely that having duplicate contacts in your address book would send duplicate texts.

Hey guys,

Quentyn from Phandroid.com here. Chiming in because I understand many of you are disappointed about the result of this ask me anything session. First of all, I feel I owe all of you a huge apology, as well as an explanation on what happened.

I originally underestimated the amount of activity this thread would get. I had every intention of answering every question that was asked, but things ultimately spiraled out of control. I posted the thread in the midst of working to provide Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KITKAT coverage for Phandroid.com, and that proved to be much more difficult than I originally imagined.

I committed a huge error by failing to communicate a couple of key things in my original posts:

* I should have mentioned that the ask me anything session was for a limited time.
* I should have clearly communicated the cut-off point for questions.

It's because of these two things that the thread ballooned into such a mess, and with a broken promise to boot. I sincerely apologize to everyone whose questions were seemingly ignored. I must admit that I am new to the whole AMA process, but I have learned a great deal from the missteps that have occurred. I will work diligently to avoid such issues in the future should I decide to do another.

Again, I just want to apologize to everyone, and hope you'll understand how truly sorry I am that this has gone down this way.

can you edit the keyboard?

I'd rather have the comma as the main key instead of the full stop and have the full stop as the long press

Its the Google keyboard, so you have the same setting options as the one on the market.

I have the comma on the main page replacing the voice key

Where is the voice key on Nexus 5s Google keyboard?! I've been searching everywhere and long pressing the comma does not work.
Edit: Long pressing the comma brings up only the settings button.

I'm sorry my friend. It seems only you have this problem. I would contact my carrier if I were you ASAP and make sure it isn't charging you double and if it is explain the situation to them. As for fixing the problem, try downloadung a 3rd party SMS app and see if it has the same problem. If it doesn't, try disabling hangouts, then restarting your phone and enabling it

where the comma is in that screenshot was the speech icon,

i had to go into settings > language & input > press the settings button beside the english language and untick Voice input key

I figured out the problem was that I had to enable Google voice typing by checking it under language & input. I had the voice input ticked but it still wasn't showing up until I enabled Google voice typing.

It's unnecessary to apologise as you have given hope to many people seeking knowledge to resolve their issues...................you owe nothing to anyone.

This thread also drawn others with interest in the Nexus 5 and KitKat. A place to ask and answer questions, creating a sense of camaraderie which is what a Forum should be. Unfortunately, forums do draw people with over sized testicles who's only objective is to be argumentative.

Oh............... My question :- How can I set a song from the Music Folder as the Ringtone ? or any other alternative to KitKat Ringtones.

If you download zedge, then download some tones. go into the app you want to change the tone of, it should come up as a choice. Hope I explained it well

Thank you for the prompt reply, I shall try your suggestion if there's no Stock ROM alternative. I'm trying to stick to pure Stock for now before Root, etcetera, at a later date as I don't wish to void the Warranty just yet.

I am noticing that the audio quality with an aux cable is not as rich....
Spy
Maybe try > Play Music > Settings (top right corner) > Equaliser > FX booster + required preferential Bass boost & Surround sound.

I was thinking of performing a Nandroid backup at a later stage after I give myself a little time to explore KitKat before...........................

Get a 3rd party ringtone maker,so simple even i can manage it.

Get 3rd party ringtone will suffice, I have no interest in what you can manage.

Using 3rd party apps is simple but that's not what I asked....... I'm trying to make things work with pure Stock ROM without 3rd party software.

Another question/issue......................this is not just regarding KitKat; the issue is that some certain websites require Java plugin for Chrome and I cannot enter this MMORPG unless I install Java but receives error messages "Device Not Supported"...............any work-arounds/hacks ?........... and please do not advice to contact Java to update support, that's just being silly.
