Help Out of space

Hi everyone! So, I've been having a bit of an issue with my Galaxy S3 lately (and by lately, I mean it's been bothering me for the past few months, but until today I've been able to use my phone :()

My phone is giving me an out of space message, and no matter what I do, I can't seem to fix it. When it first started coming up, it was a bit annoying, but today, my phone seems to have run out of so much space, it can't receive messages, take screenshots (even though it should be stored onto my SD card), or even use the Facebook app without it erroring.

I can't upload a screenshot to here (since my phone won't even let me take the screenshot :(), but when I go to the storage settings, my phone says I don't have enough internal memory. It says I have 11.25GB total, and I'm using 1.85GB for applications, 5.27MB for pictures and videos, 34.30MB for audio, 14.14MB for downloads and 236MB for misc files. Somehow that means my 11.25GB space is all used up, so I might have to go back to school for maths, because something doesn't add up :P. It also says I have 4.30GB free space on my SD card, but that's not causing the problem (I hope)

I've searched for other problems like this, and all of them are for rooted phones, which doesn't help me because my S3 isn't rooted. Also, all of the problems I saw were when people tried installing an app and got the "out of space" error on Google Play store, and they had to delete the app's .odex file, which unfortunately doesn't help me

I appreciate any help anyone has :D! Really hoping to be able to use my phone again :D
 
Well ive had the same kind of problem but yeah im rooted and flash a lot of roms lol.
Without being rooted it could be hard to see whats "using" all that storage.
Is a factory reset out of the question?

I have a lot of apps and messages that I can't back up easily unfortunately :(. If there's a way to solve it without a factory reset, I'd be so happy :D
 
Tbh i dont know mate other than using a good file explorer app like ES to have a look around for any big files

I suggest installing Clean Master, as it cleans and deleted cached and junk files completely.

I'll give it a try, but I can't really install it on my phone since I'm out of space :(. Also, I've gotten rid of all the apps I don't use anymore, but there's still some that I do use that I can't backup easily :(
 
Turn phone off, turn on by holding in power, home, and volume up at same time. Use volume to scroll down to "clear cache partition" press home to select it, reboot :thumbup:

Just uninstall a big app until youve used that Clean Master app (ive never used it btw)
Recently i just backed up everything i needed, factory reset the phone then restored everything and gained like 6GB of space lol. Its a lot less painful when youre rooted though.
Didnt 4.3 give the option to move apps to external SD btw?

I'll give it a try :). And I'm pretty sure that I don't have enough memory for my phone to realise it can get 4.3... I'm still on 4.1.2 and whenever I check about an update, it tells me I'm on the latest version :(
 
So, after deleting 500mb of apps that I managed to back up, I gave Clean Master a try. It seems like a good app, but it hasn't fixed it. After cleaning the junk file (a few hundred mb, which is good), it's now saying I have 9.8gb of "Other" files, but only like 2mb of junk. The 9.8gb of files are probably what's causing the issue I'd imagine. Unfortunately there's no way for me to see what the 9.8gb of files are that I know of :(
 
Think at this point id bite the bullet and reset it, get the update then reset again and start with a nice healthy phone. A reset after a big update is always recommended anyway
 
As much as a pain it can be I'd recommend a factory reset too. I keep telling a mate of mine he needs to do it as he constainlty moans about his phones performance lol (he won't do it though)
 
It is a major PITA but it feels good having a nice clean new phone with plenty of storage and most of the people having problems with the 4.3 update probably havent done a reset.
Theres a good reason why rooters do a full wipe when switching to a new rom or a big update to their existing rom :)
 
I hope this does not sound stupid but would it not be possible just to go thru and upload a portion of your space from, music, pictures, downloads, off to another drive on your computer of online Backup? I may be missing something if so please excuse me:confused: I know the processor can use up resources just managing files.
