When will Data start to be free?? (Some Data)

remember when "talk" minutes were important.. and charged? then came ..

nights and weekends free
frends and family free
roll over minutes
cell to cell on the same carrier free
cell to any cell free

now.. call minutes are not that important. it is Data.
I wonder when they might bring some of these back.

this would be great!
Roll over would be the best and easiest first. we pay for 3GB a month.. but only use 1GB.. so 2GB should be rolled to the next month.

I am guessing they will reappear.. but when? maybe in 2 yrs?
 
It won't happen until the carriers have something else to make money off of.

First it was minutes, then text, now its data.

Data is the cash cow.

Competition might lower prices, but I don't see there being free time periods.
 
Data may not be free. Minutes and text are not free, but the do offer unlimited plans. I just hope there will be a truly unlimited plan of data. Then WiFi is out and I'll run everything on LTE.
That's when they let us use 250 GB a month or so. Right now its just like 2-4 GB.
 
with Tmobile doing the shack up the industry thing (un-carrier).. and getting a lot of new clients.
the other carriers will need to respond with something! soon!

and free data blocks would be that!
retro marketing.. bring back the 90s with.. rollbacks and/or nights and weekends.

sprint... they already have unlimited.. but need help with coverage.
 
I just think its much more likely they drop prices on plans than do anything like free nights and weekends.
 
They're crafty, they know what is not enough for a smartphone so they'll offer that, safe in the knowledge that people using smartphones will run out very quickly, if they've got us locked in a contract, or even pay as you go, we will either pay it or not use it!
 
Data WAS 'free' - briefly.

It's one thing we actually had to thank Steve Jobs for as he forced the first networks that got iPhones to do unlimited data. Prior to that, it was generally cheaper to buy a house in every location you were ever likely to go to and put in BB than it was to use mobile data.

Unfortunately, 10 years after getting stung on the great 3G flop (largely because of the crazy overpricing), the networks are finally making good on the idea that data is a gold mine: a couple of years of relatively low price data (thank you, Mr Jobs) and suddenly we are all hooked on it and it's time for the networks to kill off the old unlimited plans and soak those suckers (yeah,

In the UK I'm on Three Mobile which offers a very fast unlimited Hspa+ data.. imagine my surprise when I got an email saying I'm being updated to 4G at no extra cost and no premium.. all I have to do is download a software update to allow my phone to connect to it, it will still be unlimited. Can see this having a big effect on the UK 4G tariffs.

I won't hold my breath on seeing this happening no time soon, although we have seen some changes that most would've thought (including myself) would never happen. (wink~wink)
 
Phone companies just like to take as much money out of as they can. It wont change for a while. I'm happy to have unlimited talk and text, but sometimes it's not always as pleasing. I just wish there was one set price we pay a month and no hidden fees or charges for dumb things.

If you read the fine print with T mobile, you have 5 gb of full speed data and then it slows down to 3g speeds after that. Im not sure about sprint tho.

Won't argue with that, its a potential issue for any carrier.

Personally, I don't leave the twin cities metro area so coverage wouldn't be an issue.
