Root [Verizon] default contact picture

Lurker
I really dont like the default contact pictures How can I change them to another uniformed contact picture . Don't want individual pics ! Anyone help !!!!

You can assign any pic you want to the contacts. Problem would be you would have to change each contact individually. Open the contact you want to change, then choose Edit and tap the contacts pic and choose what you want to use.

The question is how do you change the default contact picture for ALL contacts at once instead of selecting a separate picture per contact. The default picture used for unknown callers looks weird!

In my post I stated the problem would be you would have to change each contact Individually, meaning noway to do it in one swoop.

I'm surprised no one has found an easy way to do this yet. Many people have been asking this question for years across "The Google".

I would surmise to change all the contact pix to a different default image, you'd have to get into the OS, or rom and find where that image is, then change it.
That's above my paygrade :)

Yes, I'm actually digging in the OS to find and swap that default image right now.

Sweet! Please share if you find it, because I agree that the default image is kinda lame and would be cool to change it:)

I'll buy you a cookie if you succeed (nice incentive eh? lol )

^^^ My Hero!

Hey, if you can make it so every unknown caller looks the same that would be awesome. Make them this guy.

Ok, I've FINALLY figured out the SOLUTION to this problem! (Your phone must be rooted!)

Step 0: MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP OF YOUR PHONE!
Step 1: Download the free 7-zip utility if you don't already have it.
Step 2: Using an app like ES File Explorer, copy SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk from your phone's \system\app folder to your sdcard.
Step 3: Copy SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk from your sdcard to your computer.
Step 4: Use 7-zip to open SecContacts.apk on your computer.
Step 5: Within SecContacts.apk, locate and replace desired image files in the following folders: \res\drawable-xhdpi, \res\drawable-sw359dp-xhdpi and \res\drawable-sw359dp-land-xhdpi.
(*replacing image files in all of these locations may not be required based on phone model)
Step 6: Use 7-zip to open SecPhone.apk on your computer.
Step 7: Within SecPhone.apk, locate and replace desired image files in the following folders: \res\drawable, \res\drawable-sw359dp-land-xhdpi and \res\drawable-sw359dp-xhdpi
(*replacing image files in all of these locations may not be required based on phone model)
Step 8: Copy the new SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk from your computer to your sdcard.
Step 9: Copy the new SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk from your sdcard to your phone's \system folder (not system\app)
Step 10: Set permissions on those two new files
Step 11: In your phone's \system\app folder, rename SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk to SecContacts.bak and SecPhone.bak
Step 12: Move the new SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk from the \system folder to the \system\app folder
Step 13: Reboot
Step 14: ENJOY!!!

** Name replacement files the same EXACT name as the original file it is replacing.
*** Try to make replacement files the same size and resolution as the original image files.
**** I don't think it will matter much but I'm using an AT&T Galaxy S3.

Yes, I used the computer to do everything. You will have to get SeContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk to your computer, follow the steps outlined above and then copy those two files back to your phone. Remember to set permissions. I'll update the previous post with more detailed instructions.

@ the OP, redscorp7, first of all, I apologize for not welcoming you to AF!!
So, WELCOME TO AF!!! :D

As you can see, we are a helpful bunch and sjamie's suggestion should help!!
Now, if you are not rooted, then this is not possible:(

However, rooting is very easy and we can help you with that if you desire ;)
