With 1.5, my Hero would usually get me through the day. With Fresh 2.1, my hero gets sick battery life. Easily the best smartphone battery life I've ever had. Hope it's the same on the Evo!

Whats the saying, "no news isnt necessarily bad news". I think we are all holding out to the scheduled events in May for more official information.

Something tells me, Hesse is keeping things regarding the EVO under wraps, maybe he doesnt want to get trumped by anyone else. This is all could be in some deal with HTC. We all knew the Incredible would come first, maybe HTC didnt want Sprint to annouce any details about the EVO yet, to atleast get a good amount of Incredibles sold. Could all be in favor, due to the EVO being nearly the same phone, just with higher specs.

Of course to us, this is all blasphemy....but looking how all the companies are indirectly teaming up with each other in way to almost go against Apple, it makes sense. The one thing Sprint and Verizon have in common...they both know they need HTC/Android to fight AT&T/Apple.MS licensing out to HTC for Android...of course MS wants to be in good favor with HTC.

MS needs HTC's hardware for Winmo 7. HTC is the hardware making Google and MS money...thats a nice strong backing to have against Apple in any lawsuit.I just think there are alot of NDA's out there regarding the EVO. Thats why there is so little firm information about it.

Well - I just spent almost 1/2 hour one the phone with Sprint. They said that because I'm already Premier - and the original discount I got, they can not move my upgrade up prior to September 1.

Worst case - how much is it to add a 2nd line to the $69.99/mo plan? Would I be able to add the second line, and keep 2 lines until September 1? Then get my primary number moved from the Curve to the EVO - and then cancel the first line?
 
Hesse better get his ass in gear and get this thing out. Sprint right now has no real flagship phone and they do not have the luxury to dick around and lolly gag. they continue to bleed customers at an alarming clip and right now the unwashed masses and anyone on the fence is going to get the Incredible or the iPhone rather than wait around for a release date of a launch date. if i'm a new power user - why in the hell would i want to sign up with Sprint right now?

wait until the phone is actually for sale and then negotiate.

Im not 100%, but would the second line come under a new 2 yr agreement?

I have 2 lines, with alternating(Yearly) upgrades, and I am Premier....but I use my 2nd line for work. So im not sure if adding a second line is the best option for you, especially if there will be the ETF.

Sprint was in the same situation when the Pre launched, they obviously don't care :p. History repeats itself.

I have read a few people saying that they had no problem getting their HD2 scratched up, so do NOT depend on uber glass to protect itself. baby your phone or protect it, unles you just don't mind scratches.

Well, Palm couldn't apparently afford decent hardware. At the time it was a best-in-class processor for phones and the OS is great. Too bad it isn't GPU optimized and the hardware isn't very sturdy. Otherwise I'd have no problems with it.

Out of curiosity, how long was it between G1 and Hero? I only ask because people expect a lot from Palm and it's just not that easy to go from first release to more polished followup in less than a year and without a lot of cash to invest.

You would have to move to a famliy plan to add a line, right? So it would be $129.99 a month
 
I mean, its pretty cool, and no doubt has made thousands of nerds pitch a tent, but pretty lacking to a mainstream audience I would think. Unless the public is more tech savy than I give them credit for and the understand what a 1GHz Snapdragon processor is and the benefits of an AMOLED screen. Oh, and what the phone looks like in the first place. They should have made the "eye" looking thing zoom into the optical trackpad and shown the entire device at the end.

Honestly all the off topic chatter is to be expected, what else is there to talk about? There are only so many articles and things we can talk about the Evo, 99% of all the news on the internet we've beaten to death. You have to talk aout something... now I agree if it gets way off course and we see nothing but pages and pages of off-topic discussion it should be moved and left out, but a off topic question here and there and a few replies isn't going to hurt the fundamental purpose of this thread. It also keeps us sane while we wait for new news on slow media days.

October 2008 (Dream on T-Mo) - October 2009 (Hero on Sprint)

It's not just the GPU and hardware, the CPU is under performing in its stock state as shown by the overclocked kernel. The OS is just NOT ready for prime time. It needs a lot of work to hang with the big boys.

That "eye" thing is the camera lens, but who else would know that? Very bad ad in my opinion. They should be showing the phone like HTC's HD2 commercial for T-Mo.

Palm's problems are not my fault or concern. i buy the best product providing the best value - period. i'm platform agnostic and don't make or accept any apologies or excuses of any company.

Yea, I figured that out eventually (due to the Verizon youtube page, not the video). But the optical trackpad is a feature that could be marketed as something cool that sets it apart from other phones. But again, I'm just playing thursday morning quarterback ;)

Totally. I am just curious as to how they would have developed over a year or two had they had the budget of a company like Google. It's obviously moot in the business world.

As far as CPU optimization, I was under the impression that the gains seen in overclocked CPUs are due to software rendering for everything unlike the hardware acceleration seen on similarly specced devices like the iPhone. If you were offloading the windowing and drawing to the GPU then theoretically you wouldn't need to push the CPU that much more in order to get faster performance out of the UI.
