Root [ROM][WIP]Party Time JB 3.3

By the way, SB, thanks for the recommendation for Gravity Box, I skipped over it before because it said it didn't work with Samsung devices. It works amazing and has basically ALL of the features I wanted. In fact if you do make a 3.4 I would recommend including Gravity Box by default.

I will, but i'm going to try to make 3.4 just include the features that our phone can use, gravity box is all open source, so it shouldn't be difficult to include things with ease as well as it would probably help incorporate more

Hi dev,
As I mentioned earlier. My lockscreen doesn't work.
Its not related to your rom. Its because I dont have an MEID. I tried to repair it but was not successful.
Any Jb rom I try, the same happens.
I tried your xposed FW lockscreen, it didn't work either.
But its working on ICS based rom.
I am using this as multimedia device. but would like the lockscreen to work.
Do you have any idea how to fix it? Its just a request.
Also do you have a link to cyanogenmod10?
I saw the thread but the link wasn't there.

Thanks for any help.
This OP in this thread says that Lockscreen problem can be due to bad/corrupt MEID .

You could always try to do ##virgin# from dialer and sense the device is not active, you could input your own current phone number in the msn and meid (as to not interfere with anyone's virgin mobile account by accident) this should help

Am I seriously the only one experiencing major issues with this ROM? Not to insult SB or anything, but it's very unstable on my phone. It probably freezes about 5-10 times a day. ;-; I don't know what I did wrong.

Does it freeze with any JB rom? Or just this rom?

Just this ROM. SB's first PwJB ROm was really smooth, the second one had a few flaws, but this one freezes multiple times a day for no given reason. Odd...

If I'm not mistaken the first was actually ICS, but with JB apps, unless you're referring to the first actual JB version.

Unless you've already tried this, I recommend factory resetting, wiping cache and dalvik cache, then installing 3.2, then 3.3. It'll take a long time to boot after because it'll have to rebuild dalvik cache, but hopefully it'll resolve your issues.

I already did when I installed it. This ROM is a complete bust for me, just going to install the stock ROM and wait for CM10, hopefully that doesn't have the same problems...

I think it might be the launcher, actually... It seems like it is the one with all the glitches in the first place. So I'll just get rid of that and install Nova or something.

Did you try disabling hot word detection? That's what caused freezing for me.

Nope, and thats the only reason I installed this god forsaken ROM.Also, a new problem had developed out of the blue; Google apps no longer connect to the internet. My God, Android. Must you be the shittiest mobile operating system?

'Ya know, with v3.2 and below, I was having issues with the freezing and charging and whatnot. But I gotta tell you, when I FINALLY was able to get 3.3 downloaded and installed (for whatever reason, my PC was having internet issues); I did it via wifi with the phone itself, and dumped it right on top of 3.2...just like the op directed.

Going on 4 days, now...NOT 1 HICCUP!

SB, whatever was done during the compilation of this one, MINE LOVES IT!!

max, did you try doing, or did you make sure you have a 'clean' install of 3.2 before dumping 3.3 on top? You could also try what I did and use the phone as the download vehicle instead of the pc...just a thought...

Now I have a new predicament. How am I gonna choose between this and my NEW one?
Guess I'll have the answer in a few days...before the trial period expires...

Peace,
Sox

Yep, I did everything that SB suggested, deleted practically everything, installed 3.2, started it, restarted into recovery, then installed 3.3.

Max, I'm really sorry that things are not working out for you...what I works suggest is flashing the stock jb kernel and see where that takes you

That's a shame, it's not really Android's fault, Samsung just put no time into maintaining bugs in this device because it's not a flagship device, so it's a VERY finicky device, I know personally in the future I'm only buying devices that I know are well tested.

My recommendation to you is just install whichever ROM worked the most smoothly on your Reverb, and stick with it.

I also suggest using something like Titanium to uninstall all system apps you don't need (just go through the list googling each app, make sure you know what it does before removing/freezing it), the Samsung bloatware was using about 200MB of my ram, I think that's one of the causes of issues with this device, clogged memory.

And on that note, if/when you release 3.4 could you remove all the bloatware? We could all start a list on here to save you the work too.

It's not your fault, you really shouldn't be sorry. It's just my device. Not all devices are made the same, and I don't expect you to make a custom ROM solely for my device... Thanks, though. Can't wait for your next ROM, that is, if you plan on making one.

I would do it, but there are reasons for me keeping some of the bloatware such as usability in ROM, for example, I included play music, this is for those who choose to use the aosp lockscreen mod I included. It will give you lockscreen music controls. I have no issue with people removing things from my ROM themselves, but I include almost everything that I do for a reason.

I could try making you a decent ROM, it would probably be pretty sweet too! Looks like this, but would probably work better on your phone...would you mind if I made you an ics ROM that looked like this one?

Superboy4444..I don't know if I hate you or if I should be thanking you..but since your 3.3 update, my girlfriend's phone is now smoother than my Droid Razr M. We are both in awe.

Keep up the good work dude

Yeah, there does indeed still seem to be a lot of crap in TitaniumBackup that could be frozen. Much more so than my other phone's rom. Not sure exactly what would be safe to rip entirely, but maybe sb444 can look more into this :)

Oh yeah, and if you don't know by now...everyone should be using Greenify + exposed framework experimental features. Saves a tone of battery life. :smokingsomb:

I'm not referring to apps like that, I'm referring to things that are really unnecessary, like the Samsung Account app, the kies stuff, only a handful of the Samsung apps are needed for actual functionality. There is an app that all it does is pop up the "recommended apps" notification when you plug in headphones, and these meaningless apps are using a surprising amount of RAM.

I figure since you're going for a vanilla Android feel it would make sense to remove Samsung's stuff.

Aye, that would be really considerate of you. But honestly, I don't want to put you through any trouble. Also, CM10 may or may not be coming out as well, and that one may work a tad better on my phone. Guess I got one of the bad models from Samsung ;-;

Just to get the most out of my performance, what apps would you guys recommend? Like I stated previously, I'm new to Android and I'm not too sure what is safe to stop and what's not. Thanks :D

yeah, i use that specific app for visuals in the statusbar... #pagebuddy...like i said though, you can remove everything you don't like yourself...i understand what your saying, and i get it.
