Looks like you might have done some script editing in Windows. :)

Just a heads-up: I don't know about others, but CWM recovery kept throwing an error whenever I attempted to restore the stock recovery (I still needed to activate my phone...).

I edited your script (moved some parenthesis, added some double-quotes, and inserted linefeeds for some lines), and I was able to successfully restore my stock recovery (and activate, at which point I restored CWM recovery and your AWEsome ROM :D).

I've attached a copy of the modified script I used (had to add a txt extension to attach it...) in case others encounter issues before you have a chance to update the zip in your OP.

Thanks again for the work you've done and the guidance you've provided.

Well the CWM isnt mine and I didnt edit anything in it. But thank you for the heads up! I'll remember to use Notepad++ in the future. I forgot that windows text editor could cause problems. Hope you enjoy!

You must have clicked the ad. The download button is smaller, a black bar that says Download in the middle of the page.
Who knows why a download site hosts ads that falsely advertise what your getting. So stupid

what all needes extracted and how i opened the file and installed pdanet now im kinda lost sorry

Just follow the directions. Everything is lined out to be super simple, even tells you what options to select. The only thing that needs extracting is the initial file you downloaded. Any zips you want to flash in cwm go on the sd card of your phone.
Just follow the directions in the op. Youll be fine

Yeah root was simple but WiFi and 3g both went gray tried everything even finally did factory reset and.i.still.have root so when i reset I lost my update.zip and should i.put update zip back on device and flash it. Bit how.do.i get rid of root

If i can fix this i.will.root again sorry for all the trouble that i have been. Oh and wifi and 3g still gray so i am stil same place i was before

When i returned to.stock i deleted sd card so.i.redownload the files but it wont flash it any way.to.fix this

Redo the process. Make sure your using cwm to flash any root files, not stock recovery. If your using the update.zip from the sd card, use the instructions I provided in the op.
As for your 3g, no clue. It has nothing to do with the root. Sounds like your not syncd with your account. After going back to stock you should get your MSL using MEID converter in the Play store and from your phone dial ##786# this will reset your phones settings and reactivate with Virgin Mobile. This should fix the sync problem.
Or maybe you need to pay your bill...

Alternate method to get to stock recovery (to flash official update.zip)

Extract "recovery.img" from update.zip
Boot to android and enable usb debugging
Plug your phone in and open command window as stated above (shift+right click inside the folder with adb/fastboot then select open command window here)
Type adb reboot-bootloader
When phone reboots to black screen and reconnects type fastboot boot recovery.img
You should now be in stock recovery to select apply update.zip from sdcard.

Thanks for all.the help you have given when.i get home i.will try this . Ad by flash.you mean cwm on phone or using pc sorry my.english isn't great im Korean

can't decide which one to use. this one or philz. i'm more comfortable with cwm, but philz seems interesting w/ the touch interface.

Philz has a few issues formatting last I checked, so CWM would be your best bet. Theres an EASIER method using Root Recovery Flasher from the Play Store, so no PC needed anymore

I have 2 more N800's that I'm trying to do this root on. But when I try to install the cwm.img, the installer says

E:\Can't open /tmp/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted

I did the same thing with the same files as the other N800' I rooted... Can't figure out why it's not working
Not even sure what update.zip is

If you're trying to install Update.zip (which is stock rom from the ZTE website) it can only be installed using stock recovery. CWM won't work.

I was just trying to flash the cwm.img after I was already booted in CWM
but nevermind... I only wanted root. I just had CWM root when it asked me. Way easier than what I was thinking.

I have flashed several times with various ROMS, using cwm.img and also TWRP's recovery.img posted on this board, but nothing seems to stick - I always end up in the Android system recovery <3e>.

Despite trying to wipe and factory reset over & over, everything on the phone seems to still be there. Mostly when I flash, it says that it has worked. This is the case either when using zips from the SD card in either cwm recovery or TWRP recovery,or adb sideloading from my pc, but when I reboot, it has reverted to that Android recovery.

Weird. I am new to all this, and it is pretty interesting but I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
This is a stock, not even rooted ZTE Awe, that I was using for perktv. All was fine til suddenly it began flashing that notification about com.process.google.gapps has stopped (and others as well - Swype, Google, etc)- so often that it is not possible to do anything with the phone at all. I have tried to factory reset & wipe everything, but that hasn't worked, looks like it still has the apps.

Any suggestions?
