HTC M8 User reviews - Thoughts on your device? Battery usage/life? -Issues/comments

I returned my M8 due to the top speaker grill lifting on the right corner near the camera, just where it meets the screen. It would push down but after a day or two it would lift again. Also the bottom speaker grill never fitted flush from day one. It was sitting up slightly on the right and left side where it meets the screen.
Also had the loose volume buttons!

I was thinking of moving to a Sony Z2, but I think I'll go with another M8 and hope it's better finished than the last one!

Alrighty figured I'd chime in since I've been using the device for 1 full week now. I'll run down some key things and my thoughts/opinions on them.

Camera - it's fine.. I'm not a guy who uses my camera a lot so it gets me by fine.

Screen - as good as any phone I've owned in last 3 years (galaxy nexus, iPhone 5, M7, nexus 5).

Battery Life - this is why I'm here.. the m7 was decent with battery and then I sold it and bought a nexus 5.. let's just call the N5 inconsistent. With the M8 I'm getting through my 16 hour days with ease. I never even really check my battery now it's amazing.

Sense - BEST android UI hands down. I do miss the stock android from the N5 but I'll take the trade-off with sense to gain battery life and a rather enjoyable UI. Didn't realize how much I missed/used BlinkFeed until I got back on the m8.

Build Quality - First class.. flawless.. I couldn't be happier with the build of the m8. My m7 had issues (gaps) but not this thing I've had no issues that others report and this is by far the most premium feeling handset I've ever held.

Speakers - beats by who? Lol louder then the m7... Sometimes almost too loud.

Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this device, I held a friend's S5 today and played around with it and I'm so glad that I got the m8, it'll be my one and only until 1 of 2 things .. the M9 or the Nexus 6.

HTC is no different then any other manufacturer these days, no one phone is identical when it comes to build quality. And honestly all the Big Boys, Samsung , LG, Sony, HTC, and yes Apple as well all have issues with quality control. I've owned em all and will say its just a crap shoot when it comes to getting a perfect phone.

I went through 4 Nexus 5's when they were released, loose corners, dust under screens, dead pixels, wobbly buttons, it happens to em all, just stinks when its you its happening to.

I'm on my 3rd M9 since Thursday...lol
First had a few nicks on the back and a yellowish tone to the screen

Second had a scratch right down the middle of the power button that was just severely sunken into the body of the phone, and the volume button was extremely loose and woobly.

On my 3rd and its holding up pretty good, no woobly buttons, etc etc...

Like I said, its a crap shoot!

1 amp charger is way slower at over 4 and a half hours to 98%, finally cracked 100% at 4 hours 56 minutes. 1.5 amp charger was 130 minutes to 100% from 0%.

How do you leave the store with a phone consisting of all these problems? Don't you inspect the phone when they open it from the box?

1st was sent straight from at&t, 2nd I didn't activate in the store, 3rd I opened in the store and it happened to be good!

I've been on this build quality thing since the days of palm and then Blackberry. These days its not as easy to do exchanges anymore.

i didn't :-\ just went oooo that's nice, paid my cash and left.. build on mine seems good so far

I had my M8 for about 10 days, very satisfied. Noticeable improvement over last years HTC One (M7) in every aspect.
Most commendable and significant improvement must be the battery life.
The camera although still having the same 4mp, is still better than the M7, may not be the best flagship phone camera in daylight pictures but definitely one of the best in low light and especially in night scenery.
The SD card storage is most welcome and appreciated.
Build quality is excellent, display is brilliant and very natural, not overly saturated.

In fact this is my 2nd M8, I have the M8 on Sat, 5th April, the first day of launch in Singapore, the 1st set keep having a "no SIM card detected" notification.
I have the 1st M8 on Sat, 5th April, around evening on Sun 6th April, the "no SIM card detected" notification appears, same issue after restarting the phone, end up having to take out the SIM card and reload again, it works.
Same problem happens again around 3pm on Mon, 7th April, do a restart and it works again.

Call HTC Service Centre and logged a complain, apparently it is a new phone and they have no ideal of the cause to this problem, suggested me to make a one to one exchange and also change a new SIM card too. Went to my mobile service provider to change a new M8 and SIM card, hoping for the best.

Unfortunately the same problem occurs again on Wednesday and Thursday, a bit annoyed but suspect that it shouldn't be the phone or SIM card problem as it cannot be that the same problem happens to 2 phones and SIM cards.

Willing to monitor for another day or two to see whether the problem persist before matching down to do another exchange.

Fortunately, received a HTC OTA update on Saturday and one of the improvement is related to the SIM card issue.
So far so good after the update. Excellent and efficient service on HTC in addressing the issue promptly.
The software no. after the latest update is 1.54.707.7
Should anyone having the same problem, check for the latest update.

I'm not having the issue but notice that my software version is 1.54.401.5. Checked and no update available.

Nothing wrong with the phone. You need to put some clear tape over the sim card and cut it to the shape of the card. There should be a YouTube video to help you out or just goggle it. People were receiving that message with the M7. HTC supposedly resolved it with a software update but I used some tape and never saw that message again.

I'm going to say that if you have to put tape on anything "brand new" to fix it it needs to be returned for a new one lol.

Nobody sees the SIM card. It's an easy fix and takes a minute to place a piece of tape over the SIM card and cut. If anyone had the M7, they encountered the problem. It's because you probably popped your SIM card tray out and it's not seated properly. That would be user error in my opinion. If the tape is on there the phone will always be able to read the card and you won't receive the error.

With the M8 I don't have to worry about charging my phone at night like the M7. I'm sitting at 31% after 1 day and 3 hours of use. The M7 could not last this long.

I'm absolutely blown away with the battery life. I'm at 40% after 16 hours up time and I used the navigator, worked my social stuff, and streamed tunes today. I've couldn't be happier.

mine went back yesterday due to poor sound quality in calls - new one does seem better during an m8 to m8 call ;) ...also noticed that that speaker-screen fit is better on new one

My battery life has been pretty good for the most part...much much better then both the M7 and nexus 5

All too many times I was sitting at around 60% or less on my M7 by noon... On this phone I am lucky to drop below 80% by noon. This is with me getting up at 6:30 in the morning and disconnecting the charger.

Today is the first day that I feel a slight drain. Nothing is really running and I went from 100% down to about 85% while the phone was mainly in standby
