Gmail app vs. HTC mail w/HTC sense

I agree 100%. Blackberry has fallen by the wayside with everything BUT email, it's really too bad. I'm coming from a BB Curve, and the web browser is basically unusable. I chose to take slightly "worse" email in order to have a much better all around phone in the Incredible.

RIM is marketing Blackberry as being for the unwashed masses...it hit that peak with the Storm series of handset...but it's still mostly a business class operation. It does business extremely well.

Consumer, not so much.

anybody know how to make a universal inbox in the HTC mail app instead of having to flip between different accounts?

Also, anyone notice that the top email when you scroll to the HTC mail widget is the last email you looked at. It's not the newest one.

After setting up gmail as an exchange server for the HTC mail app, new emails are not in the notification screen. The only way to know if you have a new mail is to look at the mail icon

That's not true on my end at all. Just tested, and it shows up on the notification screen.

I'm using the HTC mail app on my DI. I've got 6 different email accounts showing up there. (4 POP accounts, 1 Gmail account, and one exchange account I'm accessing through POP). Push email is no big deal to me. I can wait 15 minutes to have the device check for it. My main question is can I have all 6 accounts show up in the same inbox? I understood that the HTC app allowed you to integrate the accounts, but so far I have a drop down in the app to change from one account to the others. I'm coming from a BlackBerry Storm and really liked the way all my emails show up in one inbox, just like they do with Outlook on my PC. Any way to do that on my Incredible? I'm not interested in forwarding all my mail to gmail and doing it that way. Is there a way the HTC app can do this? If not, is there another email app that would support that? Thanks.

Ditto. I definitely do not want to check 5 different email folders. When you set up all of your accounts in the Moto Droid, there was only 1 folder to open. Am I missing an option somewhere?

This mail thing is throwing me a bit - sorry for the longish post, maybe somebody can help me out.

It seems as though I have 3 places to check my email - this HTC Sense Widget, a "mail" icon and a "gmail" icon. I think the widget is designed well and would use it, but I don't understand how to flick through emails. Does it not work like that?

Does it only show the most recent email in the widget preview and then once you tap, it launches you into HTC Mail? It would be pretty sweet if you could flick through the mail a la "deck of cards" style.

Same goes for the SMS widget... I wish I could just tap or scroll through the messages on the widget instead of launching into a whole window.

I don't particularly care about when I get my emails - I think checking every 5 minutes is plenty. I just want everything to sync nicely - when I delete something from the HTC Mail will it delete from my gmail inbox? If I want to label something, can I do that in HTC Mail?

Maybe somebody should just tell me to use one or the other and I'll do that... too many choices

If you want fulll Gmail functionality (labeling, archiving, marking as spam, push email, etc), use the Gmail app. If you want full Sense integration (flicking, sense copy/paste, etc), use the HTC mail client.

Or use both (I am :-P)
I think I might have found a way with Exchange to get notifications while idle. I will let ya know. It has something to do w/ turning them on when in the HTC email app by going to menu and settings. I hope it works!

Yup it worked! (hopefully hahaha) go to your HTC mail..open it, then press menu. Go to more then settings. Go to notification settings. For me, my notification sound and vibrate were OFF. So, now that they are on, it works just fine! I hope this isn't a fluke haha

a simplier question for us dummies - how to you set the HTC mail client to open an attachment (such as a jpg) - it shows the attachment but will not open it automatically, or even when clicked upon.

I like the gmail client just fine except for the fact the text is so small and you can't zoom. My old eyes just can't focus that small.

Just a quick update: I was able to set up our Google Apps email with the phone and it's working fine.

What I did was during the initial set-up when it asks if you have a Google mail account I just answered yes and then when it asked me to sign in I just entered my full domain mail address (eg. yourname@mydomain.com) and then clicked on the password section and entered in my password. It took a few seconds to verify and then the set-up was complete.

It's great because now I get my work email pushed to my phone and I don't have to have it go out and search for new mail every 5 minutes or something.

Now I don't know if this would work if you went in to set-up a new Google Apps mail account after the initial set-up, but it does work if you choose it initially, at least.

I have tried this (after initial setup) several times now and it always fails for me. I really don't want to perform ANOTHER factory reset but I would really like to get my university email on the phone. I cannot get it working in the HTC mail app either.

I am considering bringing my phone in to the helpdesk tomorrow but I'm worried that the people working there wont know what they are doing.

Does this work? How to setup a secondary Google Apps email for Android – Android and Me

Just followed along with that and it said authentication failed. Check username and password. I can guarantee I am entering the username and password correctly though. I'm wondering if it isn't a problem with how my university has the apps email setup because I know my roommate had a lot of problems getting his black berry setup with it.

I have two gmail accounts, one for work and one for personal. I used the primary gmail as my personal and used the gmail app. I tried the HTC app for my work email which I route through a secondary gmai account. unfortunately, the HTC app would send my mail as from my work gmail address and not the actual POP3 address I have setup in gmail, and since you can't select which email to send from, I had to ditch the HTC mail app. I now use gmail apps for both.

I'm also having this problem.

Some attachments open fine, others dont, u just click the download button and it flashes to the "message waiting to be downloaded" clock and doesnt do anything.

I just open up gmail, refresh my folder and download it through that, but would love to be able to download attachments from exchange htc gmail.

Any help?

Can you have (2) exchange accounts? I have my work (exchange) and want to add my GMAIL as described above, however it only gives me POP, APOP and IMAP for selections for adding a new account.
