Lurker
Unbelievable....And the story goes....Got phone 1 week ago, order case next day, case gets delivered yesterday but not in time.......

anyway...my fault. shoulda bought a case immediately, regardless of the cost . cause now it's really gonna cost me

So is glass available yet? I hear getting in these things is a pain due to it's water resistance.....any advice, direction, input on parts, diy, or cheap outsource on long island.

I guess you bought if off contract? If not take it back to one of your carriers stores and ask for a replacement. Most carriers have a 14 day replacement policy.

Yes, I did buy off contract. I tried talking with my carrier, said it happened while locking in the battery cover...no go. Insurance $199 deductible (which is why I don't carry insurance). The sucky thing is it barely fell 12" onto a wood floor. I have owned a S2, S3 and now this, I have never cracked a screen and I have dropped my phones from unbelievable heights onto concrete...

I fell you feely73. I can almost guarantee you that after this experience you'll never drop one again or if you do it will have a case on it. That's what happened to me when I broke my G1 screen in 2011. Never did get that fixed. Screen repair was in it's infancy back then.

The crazy thing is, before I left for work I had tracked my case and it was being delivered that day. I jinxed myself cause i said to myself, self, your luck today will be the day you break it.......

That sucks! I dropped my S5 two days after I bought it - onto concrete - from about 4 or 5ft. It had a case though. Was fine.

What part of LI? I was raised there. Maybe there's a glass repair in the mall? Walt Whitman? Smithhaven? Westbury? Best to you..!

Aw... bummer! I know the feeling well as when I got my Note 3, first day it dropped out of my pocket onto the sidewalk and dinged up the corner good. Bugged the snot outta me as I was going to get a flip case that afternoon... however, the flip case, (the ones back then) didn't protect the corners either.
Then to top it off, 3 months later it was stolen right out from under my nose... so I went back to the S3 until my 2 years was up, which was two weeks ago.

That's why I always get the insurance. I use a case, but it's been well documented that I am prone to wrecking a phone or 3 throughout the year....

I won't do it... your paying TWICE for the phone with the contract and insurance deductible. I will just be extra careful and IF something does happen, I will go back to using the S3 until contract time in 18 months.

My job doesn't allow for "extra carefull". :)

$10/month is cheap for the peace of mind I get, knowing I can get another one WHEN Something happens.

$240 = 24 months @ $10
$199 = Plus the deductible
___
$439

No thanks!

ditto on this, I once bought the "insurance package" and actually had to use it.

Then oh boy, it broke, and I think "I get a freebie phone"....
el wrongo john boy.... $199 deductible for you, you lucky guy.
Piss on that..... I turned their insurance down so fast..... and will never buy it again.

I just buy a good case, put a neckstrap on the phone, and it never hits the floor.

So then you pay the full, off contract price? Or search Flea - Bay or Crack list for a used one? Not me.... my phone IS my business. Wreck it, go to best buy and get a new one coming for $150.00
I wrecked 3 in 2013..... 2 of the Note 2 and one S4.

You must a mountain climber or must be more careless than most as I've only damaged ONE phone in 10 years and I have it with me all day long... it IS my business too. In case I do brick my current S5, I have two other pristine phones for backup with no scratches with one year of use each... a S3 & Note 2. So for me insurance is stupid... for you? You have to have insurance.

I own an excavating company, we do a lot of jobs on and in water and mud. For us, it's only a matter of time before we wreck a phone. I put my S5 in an Otterbox Defender on day one. But I still don't think it will last too long. I do try to be careful with it.... :D

OK, that makes sense. That is also why you wanted the weather proofing too.

I know if the replacement glass is coming from Samsung themselves, it will be quite expensive most likely. There are third-party replacements available from China, but the quality may not be there.

I've actually broken a few phones in 10 years, I'm not dropping them from mountains or don't think I'm particularly careless. :D Cracked the LCD twice on a Nokia N95, although that was really poor design on the part of Nokia. Broke the AMOLED screen on a Galaxy S that was in my pocket when we were moving some furniture about, was in a case, too expensive to repair. And dropped a Lenovo P700i from about 4 foot onto a tiled floor, landed face down, no case, cracked the glass. Fortunately repair was while I waited and not expensive, Chinese phone in China. My current Samsung Galaxy Win, I keep in a sturdy rubber case, that's been dropped a couple of times, but the phone is still good as new. Other phones I've had, they've worn out or started to fall apart. Like a cheapo KIRF Galaxy Note, where the micro-USB detached and has pushed up inside the phone. So can no longer charge it or connect it. Exactly same thing happened with a Nokia E72 I had, the charging socket became detached and no longer connected.
