Help Google Password Probs

irishpack

Newbie
I recently changed my password for Google. My Samsung Galaxy S2 keeps saying log-in failed. I went to:
EMail
Account Settings
General Preferences
clicked on GMail
Incoming Settings and changed my password

did the same in Outgoing settings but I keep getting 'incorrect username/password' error

Any help appreciated:D

Delete the Google account on the phone. Create a new account, using your current login and password.

thanks for your quick response!

i deleted the google account and set up a new one and i still get the same message. i logged into my gmail account on my laptop and made sure i was entering everything accurately, and i was :/

when i try to do it manually, i get "unable to connect server"

gmail is a pop3 server, right? that is the only thing i was unsure of

Create a new email account. Let the email program set it up automatically, don't set it up manually. Google, like most email servers these days, doesn't use standard port numbers so if you set iit up using the standard ports it won't be able to connect. (For example, most ISPs won't allow you to send email to any server but their own on port 25 (it was supposed to prevent spamming). So email services can't use port 25 for SMTP, so they use a different port.

The internet is still at about the stage car driving was in the first few years of the 20th century, when a flagman had to proceed a motor vehicle (on foot) to warn everyone that a motorcar was coming. The phone and the server can talk to each other and figure out which ports and which protocol to use. Doing it yourself, unless you know what's being used, usually doesn't work. (Avast, Thunderbird and Google is one great example of the infancy problem. If you let Avast check the SSL certificate from Gmail, it throws a fit every once in a while - for no apparent reason).
