problem with sending texts

Anyone else have problem with sending texts "sometimes"?? Some times I have no problems and other times they take like 10 minutes to go through even with perfect signal... I'll have to boot down then up again then no problem at all for a while.. Then starts again with texts not going through

I am too. My old phone never had a problem so frequently. I have to go into airplane mode and out to make sure I get all my texts. It's kind of ridiculous.

Today kept getting messages that message not sent and phone kept trying with repeated failure messages. Called Sprint Customer Services and the representative sent something to download to the phone OTA. Seems to have fixed the problem.:)

Was it just a software update?

There are two ways it can be done. Go into settings>system updates> and update your profile (data) and your PRL (preferred roaming list).

(Update Profile): This resets your data connection and does a "refresh" with your cell provider, which can fix a lot of data connectivity errors.

(Update PRL) Updates table information for authorized bands to scan for service, this usually relates to your ability to roam outside of your home area. more info onthis can be found here: What is PRL?

The second way is to contact your service provider, and either update it through the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system, or talk to customer service directly and ask them to "push" a PRL and profile update to your phone.

*228 (as posted earlier) on Verizon phones, will update the PRL on your phone. If you are continuing to have issues I would call Verizon. Text messages use data by default, but you can still receive texts on 1x (data disabled or unavailable). I would ask them to look at the towers in your area for issues, and see if they can push a profile update and a PRL update to your phone. It is most likely a network issue, and not a problem with the phone.

Text messages don't use data at all.. For yrs I've always had my data turned off while sending texts.. They always went through without data or wifi

They will go through without data since text messages are configured to utilize 1x if necessary (anyone that travels internationally knows this all to well) However if data is available it will use 3G data unless you are roaming; It will not use WiFi. The MMS protocol will use WiFi and data, and 1x on select carriers (ex. picture messages)

I just said for yrs I turn my data off and texts still go through.. They don't use data at all to send or receive...turn mobile data off on ur phone and you'll see that u can still send and receive texts

Sorry if there was any confusion, but If you read the first line of my post #20 you will find that is exactly what I said. 1x is 1xRTT (Single-Carrier Radio Transmission Technology) which allows for phone calls and basic data services, including text messaging. 1x is used when on phone calls, and when mobile data is disabled. I am sure if you read my post again you will catch that :)

Idk what any of that mean lol.. I do know sometimes ifi really have a bad signal then 1x pops up... How come if I send a text with mobile data turned off, the 1x doesn't come on the screen? Isn't 1x like 3g just super slower?

1x is active if you have any type of cell signal on the M8. It is active by default, so it is incorporated in the standard signal meter. 3G/4G services are on separate bands (frequencies) and use different radios.

Both my wife and I's texts are slow or not going out at all lately. Just tried *228 but no difference. I sent a text over a minute ago and the 3 dots in hangouts are still bouncing. Often it will eventually fail and then say retrying. Some texts never appear. Some appear twice. Any of you happen to be in Seattle area on Verizon?
